Scared 97' N/A NA trying to blow without blowing up
Me: Hello! Been lurking from time to time for about 6 years. I love getting my hands dirty, and decided Miata was a great way to learn everything about cars, thanks to forums like this, youtube, etc. Can't really afford mechanics school, and there are literally no mechanics in my extended family, so sort of been learning all alone. So far so good.
My car: Purchased in ~2015 a 72k mile in California, drove it back home to Canada (near Toronto), and have now about 90k on the odo. Base package, so since then I've swapped a Torsen rear end, FlyinMiata sways, FM frame rails, FM tokiko coils+springs, FM stage 1 clutch + flywheel, some maintenenance parts yadda yadda.
I am 27 years old, and just recently finally payed off my student debt. As a reward, my wife and I agreed that we can allow for some splurging and I would try to Turbo little Molly. Compression checked out, the trans/drive train has felt great, low mileage, I figured it's a safe specimen.
I am joining as I realize I need some help. Well, probably a lot of help. I have currently 100 tabs open trying to learn everything there is, and I've already made some purchases trying to DIY this thing, and I think I've been making some mistakes. Going to try and start here, but will be posting a thread (hopefully in the right place) with photos and more info and will hopefully make some friends along the way.
P.S. I spent years working on my Coffee making skills (I also roast), so if you happen to ever meet me, I'd love to make you a delicious cup and my wife will bake you a croissant Eh.
Sorry about the long winded message. Don't ban me please
That's incredible! I wish we had the climate here to grow a tree. I recommend strongly to find a source for cheap green beans and get some practice on a roasting setup. I started with a cast iron pan the first few times just to get an idea of wtf I was doing, then went into a manual operated Whirly Pop, again on the stove, just to help with agitation.
Years go by and now I am on a fully modified Air PopperyII popcorn popper converted to a coffee roasted with arduino+thermocouple+solid state relay controlling the heat input. You can get by with just one of those poppers and flicking the switch manually :P
The real problem is when you grow your own batch, chances are you will have enough for a single roast. I typically nail the roast for a particular bean somewhere on the third attempt, since each has a different density, moisture content etc. I usually buy beans by the 10-20lb and just take notes and try my darndest to make things repeatable.
Hope I didn't scare you away.
Will try to add photos. Sadly no cat yet, but I have a polandball that keeps me safe Luggage rack fell apart somewhere in Utah. Free spare tire if you can find it. This is me trying to find the grand canyon via offroading from the north west... Gunlock utah camping. I got to fly this plane built by my friend using a hobby kit Clutch is ready for turbo bought this second hand, might have been a mistake
She is an absolute beauty! The flowers, size, everything is incredible. So happy for you, keep the harvest coming!
As for the turbo, I really don't know sadly. I bought this second hand. It's unused, and the owner claims it is a IHI RHB52 which was "supposed to" go onto a late 80s ford 2.3l, but I feel like it's just meant for subarus... I may have made a mistake buying this, but the build manifold looked pretty nice at the time.
I will be wiring this diy MS3 once it comes in the mail, so I will be definitely asking for some clarification soon on that! For one, I am still trying to figure out if I will have to be rewiring the entire car or not :S Judging by the buy list from trubo kitty, I feel like this will mostly reuse the stock harness.
Thanks again for responding. I hope to eventually become well educated here and help people like myself. I'm real lucky this community is around!
