Noob From North Carolina who runs with NASA
well... I have been instructed by the higher ups to post to the meet and greet thread before i dive into the forums. It seems appropriate so i will do as he asks.
My name is Jeff.
I am an ASE Certified Master Technician,
I race with NASA Organization and have been doing so for the last 8 years. I own and operate 2 track cars. Primary is a 90 miata, the back up is a 94 Civic hatchback. Both cars are Performance Touring E class but the Civic also legal for Honda Challenge H3 and H4. My home tracks are VIR, Summit Point Raceway and Road Atlanta. Below will be some pictures of my miata. Civic pictures are irrelevant for this site. I am new to this site, but not new to miatas, cars and performance.
I have experience in engine performance, suspension tuning, track alignment specification, control electronics, AEM electronic hardware, AEM data acquisition, roll cage fabrication and in depth auto diagnostic and repair. Also information in regards to track info and driver instruction.
As for why I am here....
There's a lot I do not understand when it comes to the manipulation of electronic sensor components to make an engine work properly.
I'm best in diagnostic and repair. That is how I afford the things I love. I could tell you why your car failed but I couldn't write the software parameters by which is operates. I suppose I will leave that to those more inclined than me. I've never had a teacher to show me what's important and how it works.
As a driver, car enthusiast and technician I can only split my energy in so many ways. I choose to be the best at what I do know rather than spread myself to thin while trying to learn everything.
but to be honest. I'm just a mechanic trying to learn more than I do now.

I believe it's best if you created your own thread as this is mine and others won't be able to follow and greet you.
Welcome to the forum. I run in HPDE4 with NASA in Florida and instruct. Are you coming to Sebring in October or Daytona in November? How about Road Atlanta for the Toy Run? I'll be doing the first two for sure.

Welcome,
Point sheets for both cars?
And post pictures of the Honduh, that's totally acceptable here. Heck, my build thread has more pictures of Subarus and Hondas than my stupid Miata.
I haven't done any NASA events in a couple years but I raced in PTB and HC1 in 2011. I'll probably do some NASA-SE events soon so maybe I'll see you around.
What part of NC? I'm in Waxhaw (south of Charlotte)

I'm sure I left something out. But I built this car for performance and reliability. That being said, this is racing and parts break. My current situation has left me with a blown engine from detonation.
I will provide pictures and point sheet in just a bit

I vastly prefer Florida region to SE region for management style and various rules. Jon Felton from Mid-A runs Florida region and he's got the right mentality about it. Make it fun, keep it safe, and maximize track time. He runs local yellows instead of full course yellows or reds whenever feasible.

Were you dyno reclassed to stay in PTE?
If you look around on this site there is a lot if info on how to build a nationally competitive PTE Miata.
I've never been to a NASA-SE event before. I have done a couple events with the mid-Atlantic crew and they seemed pretty decent. That was a few years ago though.
How much would you charge for a cage in a Miata or a civic?

The material for a cage is roughly $250-300 for 1.50 in x .120 ESW tubing. That is base pricing material, there are always better options that are priced accordingly. With base material the time to build one usually brings the total bill to around a 1000. Assuming of course you want a full competition 6pt cage. If your car weighs over 2500lbs the tubing changes to 1.75 inch, which is only a bit more expensive.
I like Jon Felton, I met him once at a UTCC event. I doubt he remembers me but that's ok, he meets people just like me everyday.
My dyno reclass for the Miata is 2425 @ 140hp, so to prevent DQ my actual numbers are 136hp@2450. The civic is point indexed to PTE. I had to add a million mods to get there but it will be a good competitor.
