Noob from Guernsey - MS11 Mazdaspeed MK1
Hi Guys
Thought I'd say hello and de-newb myself
about me:
My names Kyle I'm 18 and I live in Guernsey in the channel islands.
Im in my last year of college studying motor vehicle. been a mechanic for 4-5 years.
Cars:
I've had 4 MK1's. For some reason i just cant get enough of them.
I bought my first one when I was 16 it was a red 1993 import 115hp and I bought it as a project for once I had passed my test. i soon decided to sell it because there was so much that need to be done and i couldn't find the time to complete all the work.
My second one i bought not long after selling my first. its was a 1997 dakar edition, with an import 115hp engine (supposedly). I gave this one a good service (all fluids, filters etc...) then saw the dreaded rust bubbles on the rear sill panel. so decided to cut it out to see how bad it really was. once i had seen the damage done in side I decided the sell this one too -_-. bare in mind i was 16 at this point and had hardly any experience working on cars + im no bodyshop/ fabricator.
The Third one I bought was the first one i could actually drive as i had passed my test at this point and it was what i thought to be a standard, fairly clean 1992 jap import mk1 that i got pretty cheap (which is was i guess but it had a special suprise). it turned out to be a mazdaspeed model. which at the time i had no idea what the differences were between a normal mx5 and a mazdaspeed one, so i started doing some research and it turned out there was only 5 of the model i have registered in the uk ?! and the differences were substantial. some of the extras i have some i dont :/. they made 3 stages of the mazdaspeed mx5's (i think) stage 1: dress up parts only. stage 2: dress up parts, lighter crankshaft, higher compression pistons, lighter flywheel, skimmed head, more aggressive cams, exhaust etc... and stage three was everything and a supercharger. Mine Has a stage 1 Identification plate/code but a stage 2 engine, unfortunately i dont have any of the dress up parts. not long after i found this out i actually crashed the car which was and still is very annoying! I did some subtle mods to it. Yellow speed coilovers, ebc turbogroove brake kit, induction kit, and some better tyres.
The Fourth and current car. its a 1990 jap import which a i bought completely standard and since then have swapped the coilovers from the mazdaspeed, new ebc turbo-groove brakes all round, complete exhaust including manifold, induction kit, braided brake lines, clutch, swapped the mazdaspeed engine, while the engine was out i did headgasket, timing belt, water pump, idlers, tensioner, skimmed the head a little bit more (20 thou to be precise) then basically just cleaned the bay up abit. oh and i have 15x8 et0 7 twenty style 44's with 195/50/15 yokohama AD08R'S
I have probably missed loads but oh well haha.
sorry for the long post guys , heres a few photos of the current 5! and a before and after shot of the engine bay.
