Non-Miata owning noob from Gold Coast Australia
Hi guys.
First let me be upfront and just say that I don't own a Miata (or MX-5 as we call them here in Australia) nor do I intend purchasing one.
What brings me to this forum is the wealth of knowledge on the Mazda BP engine. So let me digress...
I am thinking of building myself a new toy. Looking at doing up a Mk 1 Ford Escort. These were a legend of the rally scene in the 70's.
For those who don't know what I am talking about look here

So my plan is source or build what would be a BPT engine as found in the Familia or Ford Laser TX3. As the Escort is RWD the MX-5 engine and gearbox seems like a good starting point (due to the intake manifold facing the right way and not having a dizzy poking off the back of the head) and obviously the huge amount of aftermarket parts available.
So for now this is just a fact finding mission and a source of knowledge which will hopefully help guide me down the path.
So now that my intentions have been laid out a little more about me.
I live on the Gold Coast in Australia. In my mid 30's now, I work on power lines, and run round after my girlfriends 2 kids shuttling them to sport all weekend.
Hopefully I can contribute something useful at some stage but for now I am here to learn.
Thanks
Justin
