Default new turbo nb owner!

just picked up a clean 02 nb. first miata, coming from a wide range of previous cars.

not new to turbos. had a 700whp evo 8, 600whp e36 m3, 480whp mr2, 550whp e30, 300whp wrx, and a few dsms over the years.

looking forward to learning more about these cars and what they are capable of.

im 37 and this is not my daily but a fun thing to tinker on and take out on occasional spirited drives.

i get bored with cars really fast so who knows how long ill hold onto this one lol.

this car is not fast by any means was told its around 190whp but might be upgrading to bigger injectors and push a little more out of the tiny t28.

been looking at v8 swaps and was intrigued by the ls3 thunderbolt miata and might go in that direction if i decide to keep the car.

it has a lot of nice goodies already so might make a few changes here and there nothing crazy for now.

thanks and happy motoring everyone!

Still utilizing the AFM, probably more like 160 hp... with injectors and megasquirt there is a lot of power left in that set up, IMO.

Congrats, i saw this car on CL not too long ago. looks clean.

You dont need the MAF when running megasquirt. it could actually be currently disabled and just used as a pipe...

connect to the megasquirt with tunerstudio and look at the tune to see if MAF is used or not.

good luck. with bigger injectors you should be able to hit mid 200's hp, and thats lots of fun in a miata.

Great platform for sure. I wonder if the OP removed items prior to sale. An ms3 on stock injectors is just a funny choice and does not make a ton of sense. Rad start for you though.

Are you certain it has stock injectors?
Stuff a camera behind the intake manifold and try to snap a pic of the injectors. They might not be stock.

This car has a clean looking build, I doubt that who ever built this kept stock injectors.

or connect to ms3 with tuner studio and look at how many Cc the injectors are under settings.

this site always recommends flow force 640cc injectors. Rx8 are the old way of doing things

not sure if i want to spend 300 on new injectors for a budget build. is there enough justification to not go with rx8 injectors if all im aiming for is 230whp on oem internals?

There are a few things you spend money on, and fuel injectors are not where you cut corners.

EV14, idle great, reliable, plenty of flow for your goals.

**Also, if I were you and I had that setup. I would block off the top area where the body of the car and the top of the mishimoto meet. So you have more air going through the radiator rather than escaping through the top. I'd suspect engine temps to go up after beating on the car a bit.

So you say you come from some pretty strong builds on other cars that sound like they cost $20-30k to build and make 700hp. And you just bought a nice $6k miata. And $300 is too much money to spend on the latest injectors??

It's your car. It's not budget built by P.O. has nice parts. You want to turn it into bottom of the barrel build? Your choice.

Truth ^^^ right there. saving 200 bucks on injectors is just retarded. Even more so from someone who makes such claims with previous builds.

its a low cost miata not a 20k evo or high hp build. for a simple goal in mind im not looking to spend more than i have to. i have no doubt that the ev14 injectors are better but if rx8 injectors are sufficient to meet my goal without compromising safety of the motor than i will go that route.

When you get to the tuning, the Flow Force injectors will make a lot more sense.

We wouldn't be recommending them if it wasn't for your benefit, budget build or not.
