New MSM guy from Australia
Hey guys,
My name is Ash from Australia. I work on aircraft for a living and spend the rest of my time working towards getting my MX5 running again. This is my second MX5. I had an '89 Euno's as my first. Previous owner was a form over function guy. Car had super heavy Rota RB's and shitty springs on bilsteins. I wanted to go racing, so fixed up what I needed and did some super sprinting (road course driving if I was to try put in into what you guys are familiar with) and hill climbs. Really liked that car and it turned me from wanting a big 4 door to go drifting in. Or turned me into a *** if you ask some people.
Sold that and bought myself an NB SE, or MSM to you. Same deal with the last one, wanted to go racing etc but wanted some more refinement and a turbo. Drove the car stock for about 24 hours before putting in my Bride fixed back. Being tall it's almost impossible for me to comfortably drive an MX5 without some kind of seat mod. I then bolted on all the other bits I could from the NA. Roll bar, coil overs, sway bar links to name a few. Started doing some hill climbs and a motorkhana. Loved it. Car felt so much better than the NA. I hated the stock power delivery, no need to say why. I bought all the gear for an ECU upgrade and had it tuned. Unfortunately, not many guys have turbo mx5's where I live. Thus, not many tuners with experience. I picked a guy who I thought was the best from who I had spoken with and he bent a rod. That was in April 2015. So now I'm nearing the end of putting the motor in and some other mods. Future plans are to drive it, race it, fix the inevitable niggles and fit a decent turbo. I'll aim for 250-280ish HP. But I would like to avoid having the gearbox and diff into consumables but i might be being hopeful with that idea.
Over the last year I've lurked on here picking up the info I needed and had a look around. Love all the info and discussions. No boring crap.
NA in the beginning. I dont have any pictures after the changes I made,
The MSM the day I picked it up.
Hill climbs one day.
Broken motor and shitty turbo. Unfiltered air is a killer.
Oh yeah, I've also named the car Ron, because of how quickly it escalated!
Cheers, Ash.
