Default new guy from iowa.

Well my name is zach. I live in dubuque Iowa. I'm 24 and I'm looking to get back into building cars. I am new to miatas but not new to turboing cars. In high school I did a b18b swap to my civic hatch. And helped friends turbo their Honda civic, integra, and motor swapped a Sr20det motor into a 240sx.
I'm currently in the market for a 99 miata to build for racing on race tracks. I thought about doing a spec miata but I'm entertaining the idea of doing a open class with a turbo miata.

So now I'm on a quest to learn what I can about stand alone computers for the turbo build. Last time we used piggy back systems that were just junk. Back then it was just the option we could afford to do. Now that I have a better job I would like to do it right.
The Mega Squirt looks not bad but I know I've only scratched the surface for learning about it. So to fill my obsession for knowing everything before diving in I joined this site. I have to sat so far I'm very impressedfor how orderly this site is!

Well I did some reading of the faqs and other post in this boob section and thought I'd a little more to my intro.

For starters I'm a commercial electrician. Been doing it for 3 years. I have a gf that I have been dating for 7.5,years. I have a 1 yr old German shorthair that is amazing.

I love to be outaide. I own a 450r race quad that is fast but don't even compare to my 07 r6. I also do a lot of fishing and hunting. Pretty much if it has a motor I love to drive or ride it.

I have been out of the car seen for about 4.5 years and I'm ready for a car again.

As far as goals for the next year i would like to find a decent 99 miata. Do a few cosmetic things right away like time and hard top. Then start piercing the turbo together. I'm probably going to fund it by selling the motorcycle being I won't have time for it.

I'd probably go with 5-10 psi pending what I find out for reliability. Leave the motor alone for the most part. But like I said I need to read a lot more before I make any decisions. Any advice on things u recommend reading would be great. Well, back to searching.

Welcome Zach - thanks for making an intro thread.

My personal opinion would be stick with Megasquirt. I believe people are running it piggyback with the stock computer (on that generation Miata) and letting the stock computer run fans, a/c etc. Other more experienced people will chime in. I am in much the same position as you - but without the girlfriend, dog, or good job.

Cosmetic things like "time"??? Confused...

Read the FAQs, and learn. Don't do the newb thing and ask too many questions without doing some research and searching. They will chew you up and spit you out otherwise. I have never laughed so much as I have (at newbs and their threads) on this forum...

I will steer my other comments to your thread in the other forum...
