the Mobius intro post
I've managed to make a few posts so far, without getting my ***** busted. Sweet! I've seen what can happen on this forum. Not that there's much you could do. You haven't met the lovely Mrs Mobius ... in order to bust them, you'd have to get her to give them back to me ... (no, you don't get nudie pics)
What I have - my ride, some tools, occasional project time. 2 cats, a dog, 2 young boys, and the lovely Mrs Mobius (no, you don't get nudie pics!) occupy most of my time. (no!) A copy of Maximum Boost (my preferred bedtime reading ... and what 2 year old doesn't enjoy having A/R ratios explained to them at bedtime). A degree in physics (which has nothing to do with anything, including my job, but is sometimes useful, like when discussing with a C5 cargo crewman how far the golf ball he hit out the back of the plane at 400knots may have gone).
What I don't have: boost, and (much) time to experiment/fab stuff etc. Thus I will be going a pre-fabbed kit route for boost. BEGI S3, or S4, most likely. Xede for engine management due to a) need for OBDII compliance in my location and b) aformentioned lack of experimentation time. Nudie pics.
Goals are to take the car to maybe 250ish. Some track time when I can, some autocross time when I can. Won't be able to do more than probably 4 days a year. Out-of-the-house-not-at-work-time for me is, well, real hard to come by.
My ride: '01 LS, Emerald Mica. 108k miles. Mine since August '07. Hard Dog Hardcore Hardtop rollbar, installed by me June 08. Instrumentation on order. Boost ETA: Spring '09. Probably BEGI S4. 6UL 15x8 and RS2 225/45s on order.
Haven't done a leakdown test yet but motor seems clean and strong. I'll do that when I do the plugs/ wires/timing belt/water pump / etc.
Current project(s):
1) getting instrumentation together (Innovate DB2 wideband, SPA dual oil /temp, and DEFI boost) and into the car.
2) finding a seat to get my helmeted head below the rollbar. Current seat has had a foamectomy. Can probably take out more, but not enough. Kirkley or Sparco Sprint seem the most likely options here.
3) choosing between Tein or Afco. Both seem (are) way overkill for my intended use but I only like to do things once.
So that's that. I envy you guys with the time & tools to do some serious project work - keep posting progress!
I'll post pics of the ride later when I'm on the other system.
