Red face A Long Time Coming(that's what she said)

After years and many many hours spent reading these forums, I've decided to finally join. Also, I'm pretty bored during this quarantine. Here's my 95 M Edition. I purchased this car about 3 years ago, bone stock with 46k miles. A year ago, I boosted it on the stock motor and just recently popped it at my most recent track day(The Firm). Motor is currently getting machine for 1.9L supertech 9.5:1 pistons as well as some Manley rods. There are some other goodies, but i wont bore you unless you ask. I look forward to being able to contribute to these forums and maybe helping someone out who was in the same position I was in a few years prior.

Welcome to the forum. There are several of us here in Florida who usually do track days.

How did you pop it? Was it one of FM's fabulous base tunes?

No no, I had Carlos in Orlando tune it after leaving the Voodoo management. I had re-tuned my suspension a bit so was finding the limit mid corner with some aggressive throttle management and eventually the car stop responding to throttle input. Clutched in and the car shut off. After getting towed off track, it sounded like it had no compression when trying to start.

I tore apart the motor a couple weeks ago and saw cylinder 3 & 4 pistons had chunks missing from the edges, symmetrical in shape, size, and position. I'll have to post some pics from my phone later. It was kinda gnarly. Chunks from cylinder 4 decided they wanted to be valves lol.

Too much timing. Miatas don't tolerate as much timing as Hondas and Nissans, generally speaking. Many tuners don't know this.

I was thinking maybe bad injectors, he's supposed to be the GO TO miata tuner for Florida. He has a 900 hp BP motor in his festiva.

2 injector failures at the same time? Timing is more likely. Post a screen cap off the timing map.

Welcome to the forum.

I was, just picked up GT2971R from FM's supplier. Will be going for bigger power with the built motor.

Here’s the spark map, lmk if it looks too advanced. Definitely curious.

Not too aggressive IMO but a seriously lazy table. By that I mean very little effort was put in to it or it was done by someone who doesn't understand tuning. Ignition advance should increase with rpm if load stays the same.

I would not let the individual who made that table tune my car.

Didn't realize you were on megasquirt. Post the tune. I'd like to see the rest of it.

I know the tuner you're talking about. He makes a lot of outrageous claims and has the attitude of, "well I do it, so it's fine" when people bring in collected data over the years.

Yea, on the dyno something happen where it misfired and stopped running. A spark plug was bent and it sounded kike metal flying around. After we re gapped it, we got it to idle and then he did three more pulls and said it seemed fine... I was uneducated back then, I won't be going back.

Yikes (the story). He likely fucked up and then turned around and backed the timing off to hide his mistake and sent you on your way.

The 100kpa level can go up to about 30 and can be blended down to the 25's in your 70kpa row. The rest is pretty generic, as stated by others.

Do it yourself for the timing map copying the maps of others with similar engine specs. Tune idle yourself. It's important and easy to learn. Tuner Studio will autotune the fuel map with you just driving the car around. Don't use the guy he used.

Where are you located?

He's the one im having build the motor, I plan on tuning it myself to start during break in and making sure everythings solid. Afterwards, ill see about tuning it myself or perhaps going to some miata race group in treasure island. apparently he helped develop the MS ecu and races regularly in NASA i believe.

Mazworx in Orlando is the best machine shop around for Japanese engines.
