Hello everyone. I’ve been driving Rx-7s and Miatas for, well.... as long as I have been driving (14 years) but as of a few hours ago today, I have finally joined this community of Boosted Miatas. Now I’m still making my way through all the stickies so I’ll spare you guys all of my dumb noob questions.
I will say I had been researching and saving up to put an FM stage 1 on my NB2 for a few months now but I came across a car that was already done for less than I would have paid to make the Nb as fast.
I think I got really lucky on finding the right car. It’s a 1991 with the original 1.6 (90k miles) and an FM hot side with a GT2560 and a full 2.5" FM turbo exhaust. Engine control is from a Megasquirt PNP and I do not know what injectors it is running but the AFR stayed around 12.3 in full boost (11psi). The car has meth injection and a dyno sheet saying it made 235.27 whp on a DYNO-JET somewhere between 6&7k RPM.
Some other cool mods:
CX racing 2" aluminum radiator
BEGI coolant reroute kit
FM lowering springs and I forget what shocks
FM sways front and rear
a kind of weak looking roll bar with no diagonal bracing
Wilwood 4 piston (Dynalite calipers) on the front
some 215 tires on 17" ROTAs
Literally only had it for a few hours now and drove it 2 hours home with no drivability issues or weird quirks. A really loud fart can Honda actually noticed the car and wanted to play and I showed him how slow he was.
Im really excited to learn more and to figure out more about how the current tune is set up and if I can make it anymore reliable or anyth
ing with tweaking. I’ll post more pics later but here is one that the seller texted me before I had seen it in person.
Welcome to the forum. What are your plans for the new car?
Where are you located?
I’m in Northeast Atlanta, Georgia. Plans currently are to enjoy it as it is built for a little while and to figure out how the current tune is set up so I can understand what all is going on. It’s my first aftermarket ECU and I don’t even have the tuning software yet.
I also have a VVT 1.8 in my basement that I’m probably going to slowly acquire parts for to have a built motor ready to go in when this 1.6 gets tired or when I get used to the current setup and the power addiction builds.
235whp is some pretty good numbers for a stock block 1.6. Sounds like a lot of fun. Now go eat up some Hondas and Mustangs.
Yeah I kind of want people to try me now that I actually feel like I’m in something fast. I’ve been in a stock NB for the past 6 years so I used to get annoyed when people would see my aftermarket oil pressure and oil temp gauges and rev up. Now I kind of want to play.
