josey_gt's NA and wifey's ride =D
hey everyone! just wanted to introduce myself. im a 26 yr old pediatric rn in the northeast. me and my girl (also a pediatric nurse) have always been mazda lovers from the get go. we both have mx6's modded up to nose besides boost. never had experience with boost until recently. she bought me my NA this past january from a middle aged guy who's uncle passed away recently. he didnt drive it so out it went... for $800 with 109k on the clock and stock everything.
PS: we're no mechanics by any means. we just love cars and love figuring out how they work. looking forward to meeting alot of you and learning more about boost and other things about the miata.
currently what's on the car:
rota torques wrapped in yokohama's
jdm tein hr coilovers
hdhcdd
waiting for install:
rats back front and rear lips
borla exhaust
greddy turbo kit
cxracing intercooler kit
ms2
rx7 460cc injectors
walbro 255
im not looking for crazy power on the car. just a little more than it has. looking to boost around 6-7 psi, nothing more. ive always wanted a miata (which is why my gf got it for me). we both love our cars and modding them (which is how we met 7 yrs ago). anywho. on to the pics. some from our work on her new car, our older (still got them) cars and the miata. the wrx and miata pics are from a detail session we had this past weekend. tiring but totally worth it!
our current babies
birthday gift `=D
new project jdm ej with 22k on it ($1400) in a mint shell we picked up for $500 `=D
some detailing pics from this past weekend
subaru wrx before..

headlights AFTER RESTORE!! YAY!!
left side `=)
card DONE!
tail looks like a new car. legit..!
trunk shines like a new car!!
MIATA TIME! dont mind the front bumper. thats gettinga respray next week `=D i didnt even touch it during the detailing process.. its coming off when the intercooler goes in...

trunk looks like shoit..!

Welcome to the Greddied NA club.
Let me nitpick your setup a bit.
- Borla exhaust. Specifics? What size piping and what type of muffler?
- Intercooler, same. Specs?
- MS2, why?
- 255 isn't necessary
A Greddy with those supporting mods (opened exhaust, EMS, 460s, FMIC) is good for a bit of power. Why limit yourself to 6-7 psi? I've been running 14 through my 1.6 for years now (knock on wood).

as for your questions..

--> i have a 2.25" midpipe post cat with a brand new magnaflow cat to go with it. the borla part is just the muffler. (pics on request)
- Intercooler, same. Specs?
--> intercooler is a cxracing intercooler 12x8x7
- MS2, why?
--> a buddy of mine has a spare ms v2.2 sitting around and said i can have it if i have a use for it. im currently chatting up stratified on my other forum (mx6.com) and russ from diyautotune trying to build a break out box for it so i can pretty much make a pnp out of it. i mean, i also would like to learn the advantages of having on the fly tuning capabilities. again, here to learn that stuff..
- 255 isn't necessary
--> i didnt think so, but that's what's on my mx6 now and thought maybe the miata could use the same. is the 190 enough? or will the stock pump (strong and has about 20k miles on it) be enough?
lastly, to answer your question on why limit the power... im a full time nurse and the mx6 is down at the moment due to a busted hydraulic tensioner and dont have the time to strip the timing at the moment to fix it so the miata is my daily. i just didnt want to start breaking things and am trying to keep it as reliable as possible whilst adding a little kick to its current 95whp state.
hope that answers some of your questions

The exhaust will be restrictive. Check out enthuzacar.com for some higher-flowing options. You'll want to replace the abominable Greddy downpipe too. Member "ARtech" (sp?) and bellengineering.com are your best bets there.
12x8x7?
MS v2.2 sounds like an MS1 to me, but I'm the furthest thing from an MS expert on the whole board. If that MS is set up for something other than a Miata you're likely going to have to modify it at the component level to get it to work with your car. Might be better off starting a new MS from scratch, buying an MSPNP, or buying one from a member here made to your specs/needs.
The stock fuel pump, if it's healthy, is good to go for your needs. A 190 is plenty if you want to just go ahead and replace it. Have a dremel ready for the install as you'll need to trim the funnel off of the carrier.
If reliability is your goal, I'd be looking into replacements for the weak 1.6 rear end. An open 1.8 rear is the cheapest but TorSen is nicer. It isn't the engine I'd be worried about. If I had to absolutely make sure my engine lasted I'd turn my boost down to 10-12 psi.
