Welcome Jon! As a fellow Ohioan (Cleveland) I highly recommend joining Ohio Miata Owners on Facebook. Great group of people if you are interested in some local Ohio meet-ups and such.
My issue has been switching from “use last value” to “use initial value table”. Only after I make this switch it shoots up to 3k rpm after letting off throttle.
I’ll admit I’m a little out of my depth here, but I could use any advice.
That picture looks like it is in the trader's world parking lot. It has been a while since I have run with that club (from Louisville area) but plan to make that change next year. Welcome!
When idle settles to target, does the IAC duty roughly match what your initial duty table is set at?
Thank you for throwing me a bone. The initial value table was way too high. I adjusted it down.
I've been skirting by on basemaps and tuners, time for me to actually figure out what I'm doing.

Very astute! Traders World is a cool place and the course is in a good spot. I don't autocross regularly, but it's fun every now and then.
I've been having a lot of trouble getting the car started with the cold weather (0 deg F).
I decided to go back to the brain basemap and try out tuning for myself. I've concluded tuning is just too stressful and frustrating for me.
I'm hesitant to go back to my local tuner. Some of the settings they ran with just made for a really bad tune. In their defense I gave them a bad tune to start with, but at this point their tune is a polished turd.
Are there any local miataturbo people that can help me near Cincinnati? I'll pay of course.
I'm open to remote tuning, but would prefer in person.
I don't personally know anyone close to Cinci, but I would hit up Adam at Ohio ECU Solutions. He does good work and can probably point you in the direction of someone local if he can't do it himself.

I really should have gone here in the first place. I'm not sure why but I thought they only built ecus.

AIM Tuning (outside of Indy) is pretty good at Megasquirt & does remote tuning: AIM Tuning
Tunin were the ones who recommended exigent to me. I think turnin only does subarus. Exigent seems to primarily tune mitubishis.
I am really tempted by AIM. Exigent charged 800, so I imagine AIM would be a similar rate.
I think I'm better off just going back to the stock ecu, especially since its my dd (and naturally aspirated). Megasquirt is cool and all and can drive better for sure, but I think its just not worth the hassle/money for me right now. The big draw for me was learning to tune/more power, but I just can't seem to figure it out.
I really appreciate the suggestions on local tuners. Hopefully its useful to future Cincinnati people.
