Home to the Abused
Hi to all from North West Florida. Long time miata fanboy. I decided to go ahead and do this since it’s been raining the past couple days and haven’t been able to do any work. I’ve been a frequent reader for years figured about time I introduced myself and got some actual advice. I’ve tried to absorb as much info as I can and will do my best to search to the fullest extent before posting. The miata's I've owed/own are as follows:
HG an valve stem seals is about as deep as I have gone into the actual motor (10 years ago) the 99's motor is leaking oil from literally every seal. It has 170xxx miles on it and runs through about a qrt every other week when I was DD it (before someone backed into the side of it). Waiting on some gas for my MIG but plan is to start ripping apart the BRG 01 this weekend cutting a piece of the rear quarter panel to weld into the 99. Replace the door and passenger side fender. Following couple weeks hoping to swap drivetrain and get the oil pan ready, and new clutch before I drop everything in. After I get everything squared away and get rid of the 01’s shell I will be stepping up injectors then ze turbo and the paint last. Anyways just wanted to introduce myself and officially get into the Forum.
added non-rainy pic for accurate representation beautiful paint.
- 1990 Rare Red Miata - 1.8 + Diff swap from a 96. tokico illumina's + FM springs, ACT clutch - Was 16yo owned 3 years - Totaled.
- 1995 Silver - Nothing special. Did some tasteful audio an interior mods and FM vmaxx owned 2 years
- 1999 Faded'n'Flaking - Current build project. So far have ms3x and MTX-l Plus installed and learning ins and outs of MS on the weekends. At the same time about to start to fix body/ prep for fresh spray
- 2002 White (Bad Respray from PO) - My Current DD. ACT Clutch + Lightweight Flywheel (Totally unnecessary. Will swap into the 99 eventually and probably put the new exedy I have laying around in. Don’t like the exedy clutch but already have it)
- 2001 SE BRG 6speed – I couldn’t help myself and picked this up this past weekend. Had been maintained and serviced up to 130xxx miles according to the receipts in the glove box. Appears at that time the idiot I bought it from bought it and decided to make a “DIFT MISSLE YO” an thought it would be a good idea to cut up half the front end to get hella slammed on some ricelands… wanted 1000 “wasn’t going into gear” did a compression test came out 170 across the board. Leakdown test looked good. Started an ran fine. Offered 500. Towed home. Replaced the slave cylinder. Shifts and runs great. Looks like kid I bought it from drove it for 1-2k miles as it has 132xxx now… literally cried when he opened the hood and I saw the engine bay.. but I wouldn’t have got a decent motor an 6 speed for 500 if he hadn’t so yeah… still can’t believe it though.

Ok, been to Destin a lot too. I'm from MS actually but with Pensacola being a 2hr drive away I've been there one or two times
We moved to Kentucky a while back and after this baby is born we moving back. Miss the coast too much and I really hate having to keep two sets of tires (winter garbage).
Put some sheet metal in there, paint it and live the low life (IC piping should be a breeze)

Ok so I just rebuilt the shifter with 5x Racing an took the green one out to have a little fun in the 6 speedieness before I started tearing her down...
I am now suffering from stupid indecision and need some guidance. Should I
1) Stick to original plan and tear the Green apart to fix the Blue
OR
2) Attempt to get some of the structure back by welding plate where the PO cut out everything.
I guess my concern with option 2 is with alignment and if anything is out of wack (also alot of welding). Just took it out for about an hour running hard on some nice straights and a undeveloped subdivision and she held up great.. Part of my excitement and fun could be because I wasn't worried about damaging anything but yeah idk. Opinions or advice would be much appreciated.

So little update. Stripped the green one down to the shell an scrapped it. Pulled interior, drivetrain, and all wiring. So now i've got way to many spare miata knickknacks. Had a little fun last weekend. Thought they had me but they didnt so they spent almost an hour tearing it apart... I was pissed at first but then it was just amusing. They always get excited when they run my tag..

Anyway I'm 2 weeks away from ordering my manifold and dp and I need to decided for real which one I am going to turbo.. So I guess just looking for opinions. Should I the turbo the 99(green and blue body panels currently wont be painted until December) and keep the white 01 as a reliable DD that looks like **** but still not near as bad as the 99? OR should I just drive the 99 reppin the mixed panels for a month while I rewire the ms3 for the 01 an install turboo stuff... idk. The DP and the ms3 harness are really the only differences. I got a vvt motor to throw in the 99 once it dies. I kind of like the look of the 99 better but I know IC routing will be slightly easier with the 01+ headlights.. idk just random thoughts..

- Turbo/build '99
- Get it reliable
- Make it pretty
- Keep building on it
- ????
- Profit
I'm thinking #5 might be sell the 01 but I don't know your long-term goals and I don't see the point in having two of the same car unless one is for parts. At least not until one is 95% done.

Yeah just going to keep the both of them until one is "reliably" turbo'd then sell the N/A one. I was just getting in the blue yesterday to pull out my POS mtx-l an was noticing how crappy the interior is compared to the white 01 an tryin to figure out how deep down the rabbit hole I plan on going..
