Hi guys new here and in the process of forging a 1.6
Hi fellow Miata enthusiast!
ive been reading for over 3 years on this forum and thanks to you guys I was able to carefully plan my built, and a year ago I bought a tired nb1 1.6 with the common rust and this one had a drinking problem where 1 liter of oil was used every 100km and this was obviously accompanied by a cloud of smoke.
my plan for the car is making a reliable ~250whp and the car will be used as a trackday car and weekend fun car.
so after pulling the engine I’ve replaced the rusted parts and cleaned the engine bay, then the engine was taken apart and send to the machine shop for boring and honing and resurfacing.
after that k1 H beams were fitted together with 8.5 wiseco forged pistons and a boundary stage 1 oil pump.
for now I have the skidnations re-route ready as with the Bofi racing clutch and some new bits like all the coolant hoses replaced with black silicone ones.
the turbo kit will come next year for now I’ll be driving the car NA first with the stock ecu and then with a aftermarket one, I’m still have to decide which one it will be the ME or MS.
oh and yes!! I know building a 1.8 would be better in terms of torque and max power but that’s for now not my goal and if I even feel like I’m missing torque or power I will sell this one and build a 1.8
Looks like a solid start, keverlever. I went down almost the EXACT same road with my NA6 about two years ago. I ended up with Manley H-beam rods and Supertech pistons. I chose to cobble together my turbo kit from Flyin' Miata and a few other places. My Garrett GT2560R is probably "old hat" by this point, but it has been an incredible transformation from the stock engine. 230whp, and there was room for more.
I still have all of my build notes. Feel free to reach out with any questions, I'll do what I can to help.
Thanks for your message, I can definitely imagine going from stock to 230 whp must be a blast! and it is nice to see someone who did almost the same thing with (the peasants that we are) boosting and forging a 1.6
I definitely need to do some more work and advise from the members of the forum for things like, looking for my turbo kit or putting it together myself and which ecu to pick, downpipe size, fuelpump, injectors intercooler and the list goes on and on, ive already got the mtx-L wideband (not installed) as I understood that the narrowband line will trigger a lambda heat fault code (nb) and I have a bosch knocksensor.
I dont think i really care about a ''fast spooling'' turbo as driving from and to work i wont need boost, however on track days with the 6 speed i hope to make the most of the 3000-3500rpm powerband.
Anyway the engine will go in by the end of this week and I will be happy after the first start without knocking sounds and or puddles of fluids under the car hehehe
I've been down this road too.
What can I say, the 1.6 blocks and heads were almost free. I wanted to build an engine out of the car while still driving.
Make sure you get your hose clamps tight, back there on the reroute. I hadn't, Not a easy area to get at.
Happy Key Turn, and Oil changes to you! 93 B6 1.6
Just to give you guys an update, last night I dropped the engine in and cranked the engine to see if we had oil pressure and we had. After that the plugs in and it started directly without any issues 🥳🥳
So today after double checking everything and filling everything with the required fluids I took the nb for a drive to complete the “running in procedure”
and I have to say after so many long nights in the garage and endless reading here and watching all the YouTube videos it was well worth it, even now without the snail
