Default hi all- I'm the New Noob here

hi ALL and MerrY ChristmaS!

I registered on this site because i have a sexy fire engine red turbo Mazda-Speed MX5 with almost no miles on it, to sell.

I'm a middle-aged, high spirited, adventurous soul and i thought getting a red sports car would really kick my love life into high gear. Boy was I wrong.

The only thing that beautiful automobile has done is sent me to the ER and confined me to bed on more than one occasion.

After I bought it & drove it the one and only time down to the Keys for a few days vacation, (maybe 200 miles tops) i realized the cars low profile was too hard on my bad back and the strain to my spinal stenosis left me immobile for days.

I LOVE THIS CAR, dont get me wrong. I just cannot ride in it as a driver or passenger.

The car was purchased exactly 2 years ago almost to the day and i have driven it MAYBE 3 times in all- since I brought it home from Carmax in Boynton Beach, Florida. I have not even put the convertible top down ONCE, that's how little i have paid attention to this beauty. Twice i rode it down the street a few miles, just to get it revved up and run some gas thru it.

The car has sat covered and unused in my small, crowded garage this entire time. Frankly i'm ready to get it out of there and have the precious space back. I have started it regularly (once a month) to keep it charged.

I'm not a car person. I can't even change a tire. I don't do oil. I don't drive expensive cars EVER. This was purely an impulse buy, completely out of character for me. My vehicle of choice is a old, beat up truck. I don't have to worry about nicking it, hitting it, and i can tear it up as much as I want without feeling guilty.

This Miata on the other hand, well, frankly its just way too much power and too costly for me to drive. I'm afraid to take it out of my garage for fear I might put a scratch on it. I dont want to take that new car smell out of it. I dont smoke BUT still ... if it smells new, thats worth something.

This car is so gorgeous its hard to give up, but I really just don't drive it ever, its taking up room and with the holidays here, i can use the money. I know i'm asking alot but i did pay a LOT with added taxes, AND i had to have it shipped here by freight from another Carmax. I realize I wont get what I paid but I just wanted to put it out there, that this car is still like new- as in (almost) just from the factory new.

UPDATE: i have just learned this site is not a place to sell my Miata, then if this is not the place (and why is that not stated anywhere on here) can someone redirect me to another website? i have already tried Craigslist and Cars.com - with zero response. I'm not a mechanic, dont work on cars, I just have a beautiful Miata that needs selling. If i had something useful helpful or informative to add to these forums believe me I would:] but I really dont....

UPdate: i'm sorry but I cannot add a MIATA FOR SALE listing anywhere on this websites classified threads. Not sure why. Theres a pic of it though, down below here....>>>>on post #5

Because this is not the place to just come to sell a car. This is a community of people sharing knowledge about a certain model of car. You need a minimum number of posts, for one.

Trying to spam your way to the minimum is a sure-fire way to get banned, so be warned.

Hello! I got your message. Yes, you do need a minimum amount of time and forum activity to place sale ads on this forum.

That is a lovely car and I understand your impulse to purchase it. If Craigslist didn't net you a few calls then your advertisement didn't contain good info, good pics, or a good price. Sadly, if you did not pay $4-5k less than Carmax's starting price then you paid too much for it. Carmax is in the business of making lots of money selling used cars and they do it well. If you are trying to get what you paid Carmax for it, including a 6% markup for sales tax and also transport (which is a joke, and you should have never paid for) then you may unfortunately be waiting a very long time. I hate so tell you all of this, but it is true.

OEM mazdaspeed wheels never matched that car. Especially at stock ride height.

"asking $17,500 - I paid much more, plus I paid extra to have it shipped here. I'm not looking to give it away."

So what exactly are you looking to do? At that price and year, I can't seem to see where it says "Corvette" on it.

Oh wait...

Highest Price:$19,975
Lowest Price:$4,500
Average Price:$10,684

Out of all MSM in the states on autotrader.

You are the second most expensive in the country right now.

It sucks, but your car isn't worth anywhere near that. Sorry carmax screwed you so bad...

The highest priced Mazdaspeed Miata I can find on Craigslist in central Florida (Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Bradenton, Sarasota, Orlando, Daytona, and surrounding areas) is a red 2004 with 40k miles for $12,500. The lowest is $7,500 with unlisted mileage.

Carmax is never a good deal for buying or selling.

Actually they used to be surprisingly fair a few years ago. I remember all my friends selling their cars to carmax cause the difference between them and a private sale was really small.

I'm guessing that's not the case anymore.

Might want to try Mazda-speed.com rather than Miataturbo.net.

Still way high on price though. You are asking collector car prices for a car that hasn't reached the collector car status yet. Some day? Sure. Right now the car is merely "used" but with low miles and in fantastic condition.

EDIT: From your craigslist ad: "KBB does NOT give values for this special, limited edition !!!!!"

From KBB.com

Aw shiz, KBB says it's only worth $10,852? That's insanity, it's way low. She's still quite high on price, but KBB is ridiculously low.

that 'vette is so cheap also because it's an auto...

Sorry friend, Carmax got you good, aside from the fact that you bought it over 2 years ago.

Best of luck in getting out of this one. It's gonna take a bigger hit on your end most likely, though. You will definitely do better on Miata.net or mazda-speed.com.

KBB is way low on these, Carmax is High on them. Figure I paid a premium out of pocket on my 04 MS with 35k because it is as near perfect as possible and has the right parts insta;led that I was going to spend money on anyway, but I still only paid 13...
