Hello! New NOOB on the block! Ready to make my '92 suck some more air!
Hello all,
I own a 1992 Mazda Miata A-Package in classic red. Owned it for about a year now, and absolutely in love with it. Learned a ton about turning wrenches from owning it. Done just about everything I can think of in basic preventive maintenance to get it up to par. (PO was not doing it...) Replaced the entire cooling system, timing belt, seals, all fluids, full brake job, clutch hydraulics. Car was been dead reliable so far. Gets me to work, school, autocross, and back all year. Bought some basic mods for it so far. Sitting on 15x7 Advanti Storm S1s, Koni yellow sport shocks, hard top, Hard dog hardcore double diagonal roll bar, Flyin miata muffler, and a few cosmetic bits such as a R package rear spoiler, R package front lip, and TSIs to get it a bit more aggressive looking.
Now I think im ready to make a bit more power out of the little 1.6. A buddy of mine was going to turbo his miata, but ended up losing interest. He sold me his almost complete kit he has been gathering for a good price. Garrett GT2860R, MSPNP2, FM manifold, FM outlet, FM downpipe, ebay intercooler kit, some ebay stage 1 clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. Also a coolant reroute kit. Dont know what brand the clutch or intercooler is, but I trust my friend enough to buy decent ebay junk. Now I'm pretty sure all I really need is fluid lines for the turbo, some fittings, and bigger injectors to make this a complete kit. Reliability is most important for me so I'm looking to get it tuned rather conservatively running no more then 8psi. I know how to read a basic fuel map, and spark table, but still have a lot to learn in regards to using megasquirt, but so eager to do so.
I will probably wait out until spring time to really start this build, but in the mean time I'm going to be doing tons of research on how to properly install everything, and get it up and running reliably. Hopefully using this site as a resource so when the time does come to strap the turbo to the engine ill be confident. I also need to find myself a beater to start dailying instead of the miata. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself, and my car to you all before I start asking stupid question in threads. Would love an opinion on my current parts, and plans for it. Maybe suggestions or advice that could help me in my adventure, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for reading!

Welcome.
my 2c.
place the eBay clutch in the dumpster where it belongs and get a proper 1.8 flywheel and clutch. Fm stage1 or 949 racing. Your 6 puck chinabay will be miserable to drive.
1.6L + log manifold + 2860 turbo = very late spooling laggy setup. With a goal of 8psi, get a sr20, or 2554 or even a 2560 turbo. The car will be much more responsive and much more low and midrange power.
good news is you can sell the 2860 and buy a cheaper sr20 turbo and have money left over for a proper clutch.
install the megasquirt now and nothing else. Then get it running and learn to fiddle with it. Then turbo later when you learned MS.
otherwise good parts.

As for the clutch, probably a full face plate would be best rather then a puck style? Probably go with a FM clutch.
Thanks again!

Thank you for the advice. I am definitely looking to obtain a more linear powerband with the turbo rather then everything at once and nothing down low. I'll see about selling this one and going for something a bit smaller.

Ah okay I see. So its not the style of the clutch you all are telling me to stay away from, but simply because its from some unknown manufacturer sold on ebay. Got it.. Funny, my friend I got it off of said not to worry because he bought it with drivability in mind lol... I'll take your guys advice and throw it in the bin. Thanks.

I mean, the nancy-types on here will tell you to avoid a puck clutch.
I have an unsprung 4 puck in my car, and while it's not really a street car, i find the clutch incredibly easy to drive, as does everyone else who has driven the car. It is a touch noisy compared to something like an FM1, though.
Just follow your heart. As long as it involves a quality part.
