Many years ago, when I was far braver than I am now, I once had a bit of a slight problem with a large quantity of potassium nitrate, some sugar, a bit of molten aluminum, and a larger heat source than was appropriate for the experiment being conducted. No serious injuries, but it did burn a hole clean through the top of the old man's workbench.

Unless things have changed in the last year that I dont know aboutl...Don't know what to tell you... this was last year before I bought my own house. I am un-insured right now until I get married June 1st and jump on my wife-to-be's plan.. But yeah blue cross blue shield is what I had and I had regular check ups and also even had dental and eye coverage

I've set my shirt on fire from the sparks too. That's fun.
The worst is when you are welding and don't see the fire until you stop because the mask hides the flame. But Argon is a great extinguisher.

"My name is shawn prince and i am 23 years old. I was/am building a Mazda miata drift car powered by a small block Chevy 350. I was super excited to start it.... I could not start with exhaust manifolds because they would not fit. I have to make my own.... But aside from that, I mounted in the car, via modified subframe and hooked a hoist on the rear to keep the engine level.... I hooked up all the fuel lines and gave it a go.... Resulted in a horrendous fire where I got 1st and 2nd degree burns all over my left arm and leg...the reason for the fire is ignition timing was off and fuel pressure at the regulator was too high.... I killed fuel and spark and I kept turning the engine over so it would suck the fire back into the engine therefore extinguishing the fire but that didn't work and I did not have a fire extinguisher so I grabbed the hose....I do not have insurance with my employer until september so that is why I am creating this.... to help me pay the burn clinic to treat me for my misfortune and for the time I am missing at my job to make money so I can live.Any donations are more than welcome and much appreciated. Thank you."
Misfortune? More like idiocity.

Really? The entire engine covered in fire, and you're going to try to "suck it back in?"
The next time I accidentally drop a tube of toothpaste onto the floor and then jump on it several times, I think I'll try sucking it back into the tube.

I kinda feel sorry for the kid, though I'm not sure what he expected. Panic is usually what ***** these things up regardless. Hopefully people will watch this and learn from his mistakes.

But when the fire is covering the entire top of the engine, and part of the engine bay, and the floor under the car, it's probably time to get your hand out of there and start heading for the dry-chem extinguisher (or, for want of one, the garden hose.)
If he'd have left the fuel hose and can right where they were, and hit it with the garden hose as-is, then things would have probably been a lot better.
(Obviously the same could be said for not trying to crank an engine with no headers and a massive external fuel leak, hanging from a chain with a gas can next to it in the first place...)

I think the lack of exhaust is what actually started the fire. I've personally grenaded mufflers after pumping unburned fuel and air through an exhaust system. I can only imagine he was coughing unburned fuel out the exhaust ports when one finally decided to pop.
I just don't understand how he got to the point of thinking that any of this was a good idea.

Agreed that the lack of headers most likely provided the ignition source for the large quantity of fuel which was already sitting on top of the engine, having presumably leaked out of the carburetor or the line feeding it.
