Duh. That's why it's called Unlimited. Spooling can ban 'em next year for all I care. But then what's next, ban the LS?
The whole system has it's warts, but it is what it is. I've heard concerns regarding the overdog MX-5/NC in street class, and the supercharger in Mod. It's supposed to be fun, but some folks take it too seriously then it's not fun.
Watching the Cali series, seems like Unlimited has dropped to just 2-3 entries, likely due to the arms race you mention.
Some of us don't have all the years of track experience driving and instructing. If we want to go fast (that's the point) and hoho's get me there, then cool. My driving style and lines may suck, but I'm always cognizant of that and am trying to get better. Spent time this weekend with instructors at the whiteboard, analyzed fast guys videos and data.
The 2:00 SM guys take vastly different lines from the 1:50 TT/ST lines. Why is that? Are the TT/ST guys a bunch of hacks with shitty lines? I really dont know? (Yeah, I do know the difference between a race line and a qualifying line.)
To save the ineveitable, yep, I know the bandaid stickys just mask my errors, and ultimatley doom me to being a shitty driver for the rest of my life. But I really don't give two *****. Besides, perhaps others will get faster chasing me? Or, it kills the whole thing as entries drop off because of the arms race issue.
You ran what, 2:02 on factory installed tires with your 302? If you were serious about TT, you obviously need hoosiers. With your experience and good lines/style, you could easily win a complete set per weekend, and thus have ZERO tire expense. Seems like a no brainer to me? Run fresh tires every weekend, win, profit, bang bitches, gargle w/4LoCo, rinse and repeat.

Noooo, do not ban my LS1! Remember that even though I have a lot of power and torque on tap, my weight distribution sucks (56%F 44%R with a full tank, 57% front empty tank) and there is nothing I can do about it, at least nothing reasonable. Plus I am at 2450 lbs without a driver and a low gas tank and cannot get any lighter and be legal for TTS.
How many seconds would you say those tires gain you over a NT01 225/45/15 all else being equal? I would love to show up with some A6 tires and beat some GT3s but I would need to drop about 5 more seconds. That is a LOT of time. I am not sure A6s alone would do it. Those Porsche GT3 cars are freaking fast. I am not sure how they are even in TTS honestly. I feel like I am bringing a knife to a gunfight.

All I can think about right now is Hallett and the TTB win. I fear it will take a set of hoho's to get there considering I'm <1 second behind KenOwins and he will go faster this year. I NEED it after last weekend.

+1. This is why I'm torn on the 15 vs 20 min sessions and have yet to post in that thread..
This guy was giving TT checkrides

I had a blast last weekend, good times with old and new friends.
I won't be able to make it to the HHR event due to work, but I'll definitely be there for the next one.
Jake the Boss is a beast I'm totes jelly. I can't wait to see what it does with the red key and some slicks.
I'm going to have to get a Track mate or transponder if I want to run the TXMC. The Track master App just keeps letting me down. It only timed three laps all Saturday, and none in my last session.

Really? Trackmaster got all of my telemetry, all sessions, worked great. BUT the lateral g-load data is not right (no way I was only cornering at 0.8 g max). Plus the lateral g-meter is cross-talking with the vertical g-load or something. I suspect it is a problem with the phone hardware. I want to test it further.

I've heard that it works much better with an external GPS reciever, but I'd hate to spend the 90-100 bucks on something that may or may not make it usable.
What phone are you using?

HTC Evo. I am using a Qstarz external bluetooth 5Hz GPS.

just shows we've got room for improvement. lol....
just think, a guy with MAYBE 130whp, min. weight of 2350lbs, and 205 ra1's ran faster than all of us except zx-tex! it's hard to fathom. So savington could run 1:48.xxx thoretically! i'd love to follow blake clements around the track for a few laps. i'd just take it easy on the straights, and try to keep up in the corners. hell, i'd love to get his lap data. i'm sure he's got a traqmate. Data and driving is the key to our future!

probably ideal conditions and a 25mph tailwind but it's retarded fast either way.

In March the temperatures are cooler, so the track does not expand as much from the heat and therefore is a bit shorter in overall length.
For all we know the front straight had a tail wind that day which as we saw is probably good for a couple of seconds. That would put him at a 2:00.5 which is still an awesome SM time but more believable.
What day was this event? I cannot find it on the SCCA calendar.
I did find this, which is a ~2:00 lap on what is labeled as SCCA SM on 3-6-11.

If this is the event, the wind was out of the south that day (front straight head wind) at 15 gusting to 20. So much for that excuse. I am going home and killing myself now.
