I'll get off my box, but you see what I mean. I've always thought that the Z, the RX7 revolved around the same design and style premise of the 944 and 928.

The page actually speaks of the fascination with the IMSA 935s. Yes Porsche- but everybody was doing the same thing- install largest wheel/tire, then make BIG fender:
