Yet Another Gun Thread
#1941
Finally starting to have some confidence in my setup - after several gunshops failed at scope mounts/rings, I got my own and put them on. After shooting several dissapointing 2" groups at 50 yards, I switched to some decent ammunition. The result: I'm now putting rounds through the same hole.

The sight was way off to the right - like 35 minutes off - no way I was getting 35 minutes worth of adjustement out of the scope; total is 50 minutes, which means 25 minutes center-to-limit. - The leupold bases have a left-right mechanism for the rear ring, but you need a screwdriver. Unfortunately, none of us had a screwdriver readily available. The closest thing I could find were the keys to that cable lock, which have been stashed in my range bag since I bought the gun (The lock came with the gun). Made about 1 thread worth of adjustment on the rear ring and brought the zero from 35 minutes right to about 2 minutes right.
Finished up by adjusting the two minutes right and about 12 minutes up, put some good ammo in, and now I'm zeroing/grouping on a dime at 50 yards.
In hindsight, a quarter probably would have worked better than the keys to that cable lock...

LOL, no.

my own mother picked one of these up this morning for her CCW... I was skeptical at first, but the thing is actually pretty easy to hold for its small size, still I would take a 9mm over a 380 anyday, but this little **** is pretty slick. Fired it in the afternoon with the family, its trigger pull is okay, but not exciting, but the only issue i have, is its design for lightweight concealment with the polymer receiver, and steel slide, it definitely has quite the recoil for such a small caliber round.
just thought I share my morning with you retards.
I still want a taurus judge.

Do you want a rifle, pistol (semi-automatic), revolver, or other? What is this gun going to be used for?
But to anticipate your answer, I'll assume you're looking for a rifle. The next question is what kind of rifle? You can get a .22lr in a semi-auto, bolt action, lever-action, carbine, target, single-shot, AR-style, AK-style, MP-5 clone, and 100 other different styles of rifle. In fact, just about every type of rifle out there is sold in .22lr because the ammo is so cheap.
The 2 most popular .22lr rifles are the Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin Model 60. They are both semi-automatic, with the Ruger being traditional magazine feed, and the Marlin being tube-fed. The Ruger has the edge in style and aftermarket support, but the Marlin has the edge in tradition and accuracy.
Ruger 10/22's... hundreds more ways to configure, and dozens of aftermarket stocks.
Marlin 60... minor variations on a theme, but most people will simply add a scope or a different color stock. Being tube-fed, you're not going to modify this gun very much.
If you're looking for a bolt action, then I HIGHLY SUGGEST the Savage MKII. They come in many different flavors and are the best bang-for-buck currently being sold. If have the FV-SR, first picture below. You can also get them plain-jane plastic stock'd, or full target kit. If you can afford them, the CZ 455 or any of the CZ bolt-actions are very sweet.
Savage FVSR... looks like a bauce. It's got a threaded heavy barrel and came with the Picatinny rail on top for easy scope mounting. I put a cheap, but well rated, Simmons .22mag scope on it and LOVE IT!:
Savage MKII plain:
CZ 455 standard:
CZ 455 target (you can also get the Rugers and Savages and just about any other rifle with this exact same looking stock):
THE REST OF THESE GUNS BELOW ALSO SHOOT .22lr... just to highlight how many flavors you can get:

I was looking for a .22lr shooting bolt action rifle. Any suggestion of makes/models to look at.

I'm a total gun noob. Asides from shooting other peoples rifles at ranges (and I can count the number of times i've done than on one hand) I have no experience.

Now it comes down to your budget. For $200, you can get a Savage, put a $30 scope on it, and make holes in your holes at 100yds with mid-grade ammo. If you want to spend $400, then go with the CZ, put a $200 scope on it, and make holes in your holes at 200yds with top-grade ammo.
Budsgunshop is a good place to look, and carry most of the MKII's in stock. This is all the Savage .22lr's they have... some are semi-auto like the "64".

The cheapest one they've got is a great bargain. The FV is $179 shipped, has a heavy barrel (non-threaded), and it comes with ring-mounts.

Another option is the F model for $182. The picture on the Buds website is wrong. It's a standard barrel, with scope mount holes (not actual mounts) and includes iron sites.

If you wanted to setup up to the CZ, it's $380. I don't think it's a wise investment for you at this point. I'd put the extra money in to a better scope and some good ammo.

If you want to completely blow your mind, go overkill on homework, and make your decision way harder, then join RIMFIRECENTRAL.com like I did. Otherwise buy whatever Savage MKII you like the looks of the best from the Buds website and enjoy.
Also, the Savages only come with a single 5-rd magazine.... SUCKSSSS! To make life easier, I suggest 2 of the factory 10rd mags. CDNN has a sale going on right now, $12.99 ea with $6.99 shipping for your entire order... this is as cheap as I have seen them EVER. They're for sale on the CDNN "specials" section at the very bottom of the page. You will not find these mags at gunshows or in stock anywhere at local gunstores.

Also... don't overlook how you're going to shoot this gun. If you're going to be seated at a bench shooting at targets, then invest in a good "rest" setup. You can attach any manner of bipod to this gun, or get a quality rest that you can use with all guns. There are dozens of rests out there, from cheapo $10 plastic jobs, all the way up to micro-adjusting dick-swelling units.
Get a good rest:
https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...essories/Rests
You can go super-simple with just a basic front-rest. This one has a heavy steel base... I'd stay away from the lightweight plastic ones:

Or you can go crazy... or anything in between both in features and price:
