I ended up picking the Holosun 507C ACSS Vulcan green version and putting it on my PDP. Verdict is out - I love it.

Looking at the reticle up close, my astigmatism makes the chevron slightly fuzzy and gives me some ghost chevrons around the main one. However, when I'm actually shooting both eyes open and focus at the target, all that clears up. Accuracy wise, on par with irons out to about 7 yards. Beyond 7 yards, for me, there's zero comparison. I'm significantly more accurate because the tip of the Chevron doesn't obscure the target hold area and I don't have the focusing issues I normally do (when I used to compete in smallbore rifle, even with a peep rear sight, I used to have to use the longest allowable sight radius to get proper sight picture. With the short sight radius of handguns and no rear aperture, it's a mess, especially for a center hold/non-bullseye target). My 25 yard optics groups were better than my best 15 yard irons groups.

Biggest difference was speed, though. I could accurately reacquire sight picture and fire shots in succession at speeds I couldn't touch with irons. It's akin to being able to just point the front sight with irons and not having to align with the notch in the rear. This was even more so if I got sloppy with trigger control or grip, and was where the big green outer circle really came into play for faster target acquisition.

If they end up making one with an RMSC footprint, I'll be putting one on the P365XL as well. Assuming my next purchase will be a PCC like an MPX or similar, I feel like the vulcan reticle would be perfect for something like that where you may actually use the bullet drop compensation.

The current handgun optics are a revelation, especially for us older folks that can't focus on a front sight any more. I've been an instructor for almost 30 years, and optics are going to completely change handgun shooting over the next 5-10 years.

The 407k is available with a green dot, just not with the Vulcan reticle at this point. I have the red version on my P365XL and love it.

I really like the "point" of the Chevron for aiming and know that it retains its shape, so I'd rather hold out and see if they come out with a K version than to risk getting the green dot and it turning into an oval for me like the red dots did. I definitely prefer the green over the red regardless - the color just "triggers" faster for me and is easier to hone in on.

I agree on them being the future - I genuinely thought of optics as being a bit gimmicky, but after trying one, they're a game changer.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for one of these small pistol cases that can read you finger print that plug into the wall? Batteries always seem to die quickly on the one I have and I want to get one that I can run a small power cord to.

I have never seen a corded biometric safe of any kind, unless the cord was specifically to power a dehumidifier or internal lighting.

Seems like a stupid thing not to have built in. Mine sits in one place and is not far from a power strip. No reason why it should not draw power from a wall, and save batteries for when power is out.

I can only assume they figure that most people have theirs in a drawer, under the bed, or use them for travel in commie states.

I'm not a fan of anything electronic when you may need it in a hurry. I'd go with one of the pushbutton quick safes.

Lars, you don't have kids so why a safe rather than a zipper pouch (often called a gun rug) or maybe a small, attractive wooden cigar humidor on a nightstand or dresser?

I don't have to bio-metrics, they all just seek to have that. If you have a recommendation for one that uses a key, and has non-electronic push buttons, I will gladly take it.

Wife's request. And we have enough friends over with kids, cleaners, and other guests that I don't want to have to really worry about it.

I'll be honest... haven't really looked at these things in 20 years so I can't speak to an individual product, but something like this:

There are options using this method as well.

Seems that maybe E-Forms is actually speeding things up... just got two Paper/Trust Form 4s back at ~6 1/2 months.

My 6.5CM was already long... now it's really long!

If anyone is looking for an optic, consider this:

https://opticsoverstock.com/products...lack-200437-ff

They only have a couple left. I won't get to see mine for another two months sadly. FYI it is shipped requiring a signature. For some reason now UPS won't try to redeliver to the original address if no one is home the first time, they take it to a drop-off point (in my case that was an Advance Auto store). Next time I'm going to tell my wife she has to be there no matter what her previous engagement.

That ad looks sketch. Does not indicate if the mount is included although it's pictured, but the listed weight at 17oz is not heavy enough for that entire setup... more like 25oz if the mount is included. Also does not specifically say Fastfire3, although if you zoom in on the pic, it shows a FF3. I am dubious.

If it is the MTAC plus and actual FF3 for $390, then it's a good deal. If it includes an actual PEPR mount, then it's a helluva deal. Again, I am dubious.

I have purchased from them several times, Everything was exactly as advertised. I agree their ads are light on information but they are good to go. Per the part number, it includes the scope, Fastfire 3 and PEPR mount. When I was looking around prior to buying to see pricing, all the places I found it listed showed it as being NLA. Looked at the Burris site recently and they are showing it as still in production but the price is $700+. I figure for an entry optic to see if I am as good a shot as I like to think I am, I couldn't go wrong.

^I agree, can't go wrong at that price. That setup is solid kit and well-reviewed.

In other news, YHM Turbo K's just came back in stock at Silencershop and I pulled the trigger on my first Form4... will see what all the fuss is about going through a "powered" dealer. And I'm very interested in having this thing take the ATF's advertised 90 days. NFATracker is showing about 110 days on their rolling average for Form4 Individuals. Still, that means people getting theirs now filed back in the beginning of February when they were still in the "rollout shitshow" stage. Maybe I'll do better come August.

It'll live on a mostly Aero Precision pistol with 11.5" Ballistic Advantage barrel and Geissele SSA.

I shot my Turbo K on my 16" gun last week, and while it wasn't exactly quiet, it took things down to the point where you're not going to get hearing damage from firing it without earpro. I haven't shot it on my SBR yet... expect it to be louder, but still not damaging. Which was the whole point.

It will be interesting to see if AR pistols are still a thing by the time your stamp gets approved... From the looks of the ATF's intended ruling on braces, the only thing that won't be an SBR will look like this:

Spent the day on the range Tuesday doing carbine training. Used it as an opportunity to run-in my Turbo K. And I ran it hard. ~600 rounds for the day, from CQB to 100 yards.

I'm using the Dead Air Xeno mounting system with a birdcage muzzle device. Never came loose, until I wanted it to, and then it came off easy.

This 11.5" gun is definitely louder with the Turbo K than the 16" gun. But it did take the noise level down to tolerable for "serious use" without earpro. Less than a 9mm... loud, but no pain, and no ringing. Shooting with earpro for the day, it was really pleasant... like shooting a .22 with a little more push in the recoil. Zero muzzle blast, and no muzzle rise with the suppressor. Not what I was used to with this 11.5" gun. Shot faster and more accurately than I ever have with it, and I've had this particular Colt since 1997.

Of course, the price of a suppressor on an AR is it gets dirty. Nasty dirty. These were the rounds that were left in the mags at the end of the day.

All in all, very pleased with the package at this point, though I am looking at going to a more compact optic. The Aimpoint is bombproof, but it's a boat anchor, and enormous by comaparison to more modern optics.
