In case you haven't seen this... convert standard PMAGs to shoot 9mm. No more ******* around with Glock lowers or mag-blocks. LRBHO works like standard because the rounds feed vertically out of the mag. You use your normal AR15 lower with no modifications and any 9mm complete upper.

Here's your upper... or for those in free states, I'd fo'shizzle go with a pistol brace and shorter barrel. Not in Hawaii though.

And don't forget some random off-color PMAGS to convers. I always wanted an excuse to buy some "sand" color PMAGs.

Damn cheap for Aero Lowers. Pretty sure that I saw SchuylerArmsco at 39.99 one day a year or so ago for blems, but their shipping put it over this price from Brownells.
5 lowers for $210 shipped ($42ea)... might be the cheapest I've ever seen these. Aero gen2's have the best feature set short of going billet, IMO.
If I wasn't already sitting on a dozen, I'd grab 5.

Yup, just took a look at Schuyler a few wicked good deals right now... they've got Aero STS lowers for $42.
And this... $70 STSLower/StrippedUpper combo.

Those lowers will work with any type/angle safety selector. I prefer a regular throw safety because... well, "safety". Plus, I've got big hands and don't have any reach or dexterity issues manipulating a 90* throw. When hunting, I'll actually manipulate the safety with my off-hand to keep the noise down. But $70 for a stripped combo is hands-down the cheapest I've seen from any brand.

Bottom line... having your CCW is like casting a vote.
I will pontificate... I'm reminded of the occasional thread I read where some ******* who see the NRA do one thing they don't agree with and say "I'm not renewing". Without the NRA, the anti's would have won back in the mid-80's, and we'd look like all of Europe now. I support SAF at the national level. I also support the VCDL in my adopted home state of Virginia. It boggles my mind that people can bitch when they see state after state start down the path of California and New York, and in the same breath, be proud that they aren't NRA members because of some blah blah blah whatever bullshit sideshow reason. The NRA is the ONLY REASON in this country that we can still own handguns and that you can buy a rifle that isn't a wood-stock bolt-action.
Chew on this... the instant congress flips blue and there's a Democrat in the White House, we lose it all. ALL OF IT. They'll pass everthing they want the first month. The NRA is the biggest dog in this fight. Be a member. Keep your CCW up to date. Buy hunting licences even if you don't hunt.

So I thought that last summer was the bottom of the market. I think we've gone a little lower. I'm seeing regular prices on regular things that I didn't think possible. Granted, I'm not shooting right now, but I have ordered a few things I couldn't pass up and sent them "home" to Virginia for my eventual release from Hawaii gun-prison.
I don't see anything sparking the industry anytime soon. I was hopeful of the HPA until Clinton opened her mouth after Vegas... and Paul Ryan put the bill out to pasture until whenever. Maybe in '20 when Trump wins again AND there haven't been any mass shootings for awhile.
Until then, I'll be on the lookout for stupid good deals to pile up.
Side note: Savage Arms rebates currently suck.

If you're not carrying it regularly, no reason not to go with steel. Nicer to shoot, and more durable in the long run, especially if you're shooting it regularly.
Because, like pushrod V8s, they just plain work, regardless of trends, or "that's old tech" opinions.
Also it is 2018 so why bother with a 1911 at all.

When I carry it, I will be wearing full camo, a boonie hat (also camo) and combat style boots. Does that count?
It is actually for anti bear protection while bow hunting. Hence the need for .45, as 9mm doesn't quite cut it.

Whats that mean?
As a general blanket statement, reliability boils down to a metric of failure rate.
As a general blanket statement, any popular, modern, striker-fired duty-pistol is going to be more reliable than any 1911.
From a bottom-feeder used RIA to a $2000 hand-fitted custom everything Ed Brown, any 1911 you pick up is far more likely to fail than any Glock, or M&P, or XD, etc...
If you're talking about something else, I'm not gonna debate. I know a lot of buddies who swear by 1911's, and understand the math says they are ultimately not as reliable as something else, but carry them anyways "they just plain work" in some zen way they can't describe.
I'm not a Glock fanboi, but the G19 is the best do-all handgun ever made.
