Not to shoot. Handled one at the shop and liked the fact you needed to fully have your hand on the grip to fire it but wanted a longer barrel. 9mm is 4" barrel unless I missed something.
Check the XDm, I think you can get a 9mm in the 5" barrel. But it's been awhile since I looked.
...I can't remember what I paid but this is quite a bit less.. savages are crazy cheap right now
Everything is cheap right now, and will probably get a bit cheaper. And don't forget that Savage has a perpetual $75 rebate on a huge chunk of it's centerfire rifles... they cycle the models eligible for rebate quarterly or so. Right now it's Trophy Hunters, DOA Hunters, and 14/114 16/116 models.
I'm currently building another set of "beater" AR15's for zombie duty. My last pair of guns was built with bottom-tier parts and cost me about $450 each to build that I sold at a decent profit...
My current build list looks like:
Aero Precision Gen2 Lower and upper: $120
PSA MOE/QMS LPK: $60
DTT Stock Kit: $22
DTT 12" MLOK Rail: $50
PSA Classic stock: $15
Gas parts: $15
TomsTactical Nitride BCG: $80
Strike Industries Muzzle Brake: $30
Total Minus Barrel: $392 (still looking for barrels... looking for a name-brand closeout/overstock/whatever ******* deal).
With some tax and shipping, they'll be $500 guns with legit parts, a nitride BCG, MLOK rail, and great trigger... **** is getting cheaper by the month.
wuuuhhh.. I don't htink I got any paperwork for that with mine.. I'll have to doublecheck
You probably didn't get any paperwork with the gun, but if your dealer didn't mention it, you should go have a discussion with him. It's not every centerfire rifle, but there is always a rebate going on a few popular models... I think the ones now are Trophy Hunters and DOA Hunters... sometimes it's all 10/11/14/16 models. There's also a $25 rimfire rebate and a $50 rebate for some models. You can google "savage rebate" and it'll pop up.
Walmart is always going to be the cheapest place for 100ct boxes of Winchester Super Target. You typically want 7.5shot Heavy Target Load. 8shot is also fine. Be careful not to pick up any "lite loads" or "steel target loads"... the boxes are almost identical. Just be sure it says "heavy target load". If a Dicks is closer, Estate is usually the same price.
You want the 100ct box of this:
Yeah, watch for sales. If you wait long enough you can get the remingtons for the same price too. One of my guns really doesnt like extracting any of the ribbed cases. I reload the 1oz remington's into nice 1 1/8 loads. Good recommendation with the #7.5 shot. For some reason all my shotguns pattern like dick with #8 or smaller shot, they just consistant leave a hole in the middle of the pattern.
Got a little more clarification on regulations here for when we can apply for our licence; we're allowed a semi-auto rimfire rifle (ruger 10/22 etc) and even an AR15 in .22RF. Full-bore rifles only in straight pull or bolt action. Yesterday we got to shoot an AK74M in .223 but it was straight-pull, so manually chamber each round with the charging handle, no gas system at all. Can do .308/.338 etc on a bolt action platform if you can provide a good reason to shoot those calibres. Am I wrong for sticking to a .22 bolt action tack driver for now, especially with our intended indoor use and relatively short ranges? I like the AR15 platform as much as the next person but the .22RF versions go for $800+ here. Not sure I want to go that route for our first rifle now. They do exist in a .223/5.56 version but again only in straight-pull variation. .22 is also of course cheap as hell to shoot compared to anything bigger here.
I have several firearms in several calibers and I shoot my bolt action .22 twice as much as all the others combined.
It is fun, it is cheap, and it is easy to bring people that have never held a firearm before. I also don't mind that it is so much quieter than my AR.
If you get into small game hunting, a .22 is perfect for squirrels and rabbit.
It does not hold a candle to my Winchester 9422 in terms of quality, but its definitely a shooter and she loves it. Price was right as well, so no complaints! The next one I'd like to pick up is a Browning BL-22. Because I have a problem.
Do you have a link to these? I'm not sure I'm finding what you're talking about.
I got a stripped lower for Christmas, and I think I'm going to build something in 6.5
^Agreed. No matter what I'm actually headed to the range to do, I always take my Savage .22lr bolt gun and put 50-100 rounds through it... usually to kick of the session. You can buy an off-the-shelf gun or build it. .22lr's will never burn out a barrel, so certainly look at the used market. If it's just going to be for range work, spend money on a target/bull barrel and trigger. I'd stick with bolt-action as well.
I just checked out guntrader.uk and there's a huge used market. Plenty of Anschutz and CZ's to choose from... also Sako, Ruger, and plenty of Savage, plus a couple dozen other brands. You might try something for sale locally.

And I just bought a "used 5 times" Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 20-60x80 Spotter for $250... supposed to be the best sub $500 spotter out there. Pics the dude sent looked brand new.
Buy/build a semi auto ar15 with a 22lr conversion kit. Exhume and swap in the 5.56mm bolt and mag when the zombie's/Germans come.
I'll assume the .22lr versions they can buy don't come with gas systems and are legit .22lr only guns, with an actual .22lr chamber. Would be interesting to see if a .22lr conversion bolt would fit in the upper of the manually cycled straight pull centerfire guns they can build. I don't know if the upper receivers are spec or not?
The straight pull versions for centerfire cannot be a normal upper conversion, has to be made for that. Usually a slot on the RHD side of the receiver for the bolt pull. The .22 version is probably the same as you could buy stateside. http://www.lannertactical.com/LanTac...15-Rifles.html sells them here for instance.
Still looking at a bolt action .22 for now, get some decent optics and have fun with that on the range.

Shopping from delta is dangerous, I end up getting a little of this and that for my other ARs when I'm on there, like Ti firing pins. They have terrible reviews online for service though but I never had a problem. I like their house special drop in triggers too.

I just discovered that place... almost grabbed one of the $92 non-branded single-stage, but saw that Rise Armaments were $99 and those are supposed to be ******* amazing for the price, so I got one to try in my 6.8spc hunting rig.
I should try the rise. I'm actually really happy with the 3lb single stage for $92. The rise was a normal price when I ordered mine. I mean you are getting something at a price. it would have cost them the $7 difference to make the parts from S7 like it should be instead of A2. The hammer will eventually crack on me, but it would be longer wearing than the S7 I guess.
If I was buying a 22lr for target shooting it surely wouldn't be on an ar15 platform. There are plenty of bolt or lever action choices I would choose first.
My father in law is giving his Henry Golden Boy to me in his will when he passes. It's not been fired. I have always thought those were handsome little rifles.
