^I've heard this before... if it was just the time and money to the ATF to get the licenses, it might be worthwhile to the extreme "hobbyist" or retiree who didnt have any other life. In reality, it's simply not practical. You still need all your typical business licenses and the headache associated with that, a "storefront" or whatever is required in your state, and the time. There is no market I can see for selling completed freeze plug suppressors and to make "better" ones you need a lathe or CNC and other machinery or whatever. Doing the occasional transfer for a friend wont make you any real money because friends dont pay much and doing the advertising and actual work to transfer a few guns a month sounds like more ***-pain than its worth just to justify not having to pay as much for your own toys. I'm gonna do some homework on this, but it sound like more trouble than its worth.

Making a rimfire can is easy and cheap... I splurged on the set of $50 cups, but could easily have done it with a different set of $26 cups and been OTD for under $75.
I just looked at Buds and the Savage MKii FVSR that I've got is $240... that's $50 more than I paid for it and I know I've seen it down in the $220 range recently. It also looks like Savage isn't running it's rebates for 2016... there was a $25 rebate for these.

I am thinking about a can for an AR, just not sure about the specifics. I dont currently own any sbrs. 300 blk sbr with subsonic loads sounds good, until you actually have to use it defensively. The media would tear you up. I guess i need to get the "defensive use" out of my head and just build a fun gun.
However, assuming the grand-jury didn't go your way and you ended up getting charged, I'd kinda like to hear whatever spin the prosecution tried to put on how the dude must be super-evil to want his gun to be quieter... wonder what "expert" they would find to make like the dude was an assassin.
For your SBR AR, just fork over the $200 and register a lower... you don't actually have to convert the gun at all, but it'd be done. For the price of a freeze-plug suppressor, you might actually consider just pinning a 6" suppressor to a 10" barrel and not doing the SBR stamp. Between SDTactical and BadgerRidge, you can do a 6" titanium w/FP's for $200 that wouldn't weigh any more than the last 6" of barrel.
My 55gr .223 handloads using Hornady FMJ's are at 2500fps... will probably get 20k rds from my $80 PSA barrel, totally worth it to pin the suppressor and save the $200 for the SBR.

It's just another way to do it... in the end, if you're talking about putting $5k worth of ammo down the barrel over the better part of a decade, another $200 is probably worth it for SBR stamp so you could put that can on other things. Plus then you'd have an SBR and HAVE TO BUY a 300blk upper and learn to reload.

Does anyone have first hand experience with any of the four Savage 338 Lapua offerings? I'm thinking about picking up one of the new Magnum Target models. I figure at the distances it'll be shot, a single shot feed really isn't a problem.

^What do you do with them?
Despite the great joy I derive from firearms in general, I do need to justify the money I spend. My .308 AR10 is total overkill as a hunting rig even if I was going after 300lb Iowa yeti-deer... and since I've got a 20" 6.8spc upper for my AR15 that's good for about 300yds, the AR10 is only still around in case zombies.
I bought the AR10 because "I wanted it" and now I've got $1k in a gun that would have been WAY better spent elsewhere. Since decent .308 bolt guns are less than half the price, I am rethinking my approach. I might sell the .308 upper for it and re-invest in a .338 Federal upper, which I've learned is one of the best rifle calibers to yet catch on with the mainstream... that way I lose nothing and gain enough nuts for Elk and Moose at average distances. But then I might as well sell the whole thing and just borrow a gun if I ever go on a Moose or Elk hunt and spend the money on suppressing everything I own.
Speaking of suppressing, I think my brain is completely full on Form1 cans... anybody who needs the quick and dirty, just as.

Sounds like a good plan.I'm in pretty much the same boat, but there is one more thing to add to my collection.I've been strongly considering a 308 upper for heavy metal 3 gun. What's your price?

F1 suppressors are the way to go. I have 2 on F1 and 1 on F4... you can always remake them for increasing suppression design as long as caliber, length, and critical info is retained (assuming you destroy the 'proto' first).

Eh, couple new things. Sold one of my Mosin 91/30s and kept the better one without the cheapo scope. Got a Finn M39 instead of that, absolutely love this gun, its a 43 SAKO SK.Y with no bluing left at all, probably seen a lot of use back in it's day
Speaking of ammo costs, I sold my GSG522, and got a Savage MKii BV, and a Browning Buckmark in 22lr. Should keep my happily plinking and will be a great way to learn windage and elevation adjustments since the 22lr is affected by almost everything.
Also built up my ammo stash a bit. Got 4 more tins of 54r, 1000 each of 9mm, x39, and 223, a bunch of 22.
