Yet Another Gun Thread

Admittedly, I like the Sons of Guns show. The content might be poorly scripted, the acting might be terrible, the daughter is really ******* annoying, and the Kris guy is like a bull in a china shop.. What I believe the intention of the show appears to be working, they've got like 12 million fans. I feel it might give a more positive impression to the general ignorant public about firearms, which I appreciate.
But...

Almost $2000 for this rifle? Are you ******* serious??
Had a really slow day and decided to spend 20 minutes cruising manufacturers websites for parts of this rifle and this is what I came up with. Aside some very minor parts (delta pack and other small parts) this is a duplicate of the rifle shown for sale by the shop:
Daniel Defense 16" BBL, A2 front sight and gas tube $355
Les Baer Flattop w/out forward assist $112.00
Daniel Defense complete bolt carrier Group $169
Bravo Company charging handle $44.95
Bushmaster Mil Spec ejection port cover, latch, rod, spring, and cclip $12.95
Hiperform Carbon Fiber handguard $110
Daniel Defense rear sight $70.00
Troy Industries BattleRail 2" $15.00
Daniel Defense complete lower receiver w/magpul MOE buttstock $485.00
$1353.90 is the total I came up with, and thats buying **** at "retail" prices right from the manufactures.
The group of parts I came up with would involve installing ejection port cover, the barrel on the upper receiver, checking headspace, installing hand guard, attach the light rail and sling stud to the hand guard, install rear sight, stroke your **** with the bolt carrier group, place in rifle with charging handle, place upper receiver assembly on the lower receiver assembly (which is already 100% ready to rock out of the box.. no assy required) insert magazine and let it rip.
They're charging $550.00 for that? I'm in the wrong ******* business...

So does anyone here have experiance taking gunsmithing classes? Is there any real benifit to taking the class since it isn't a degree of any kind? Id love to eventually get out of car sales and living in the middle of all the major gun company's and 5 minutes from sig(who's always looking for gunsmiths for their custom shop) it could be something to look into

I'd love to take a smith course if I could find time. Personally I just sit down with a diagram and my tools and see what I can do. Building or breaking down firearms isn't rocket science. I want to know the actual gunsmith trade of modifications. No, not buying a Tapco trigger to drop in, improve what the manufacture included with the gun..

Not including tools I bought, I'll have less than 300$ invested in a fully compliant rifle. Ran across a deal today I couldn't pass up.
FYI: Cabela's has their russian Herter's .223 55gr fmj's on sale for $3.99/box of 20. Cheapest .223 I've seen in years, going to buy 20 boxes tomorrow.

The stencil is to punch a hole for the auto sear hole pin. Not going to have that hole in my receivers.
I was curious what the difference in trigger group was between auto and semi-automatic. Ended up reading a pdf about said stencil. Kinda wish I hadn't searched for that.. Its out there now. *shrug* Possession of a rifle with parts installed is whats illegal, not the knowledge.
