I did actually notice that part when you said:
The opportunity was there, so I took it.
But this is actually relevant to my interests, I'd like to hear how this works out. My GF has tiny hands and wrists, so I've been looking for something in a single stack 9mm or .380 that she would be comfortable shooting that is not a stripped down CC piece.

...and that's why I'm the ultra-moderator and you're a proletariat.
Good luck finding a Shield. There are other small, single-stack nines out there, just not a Ferrari. I haven't owned anything but S&W so I was a little shocked when I field-stripped the PF-9. If I had done that in the store, I might not have brought it home. However, it will get the job done since she lives in the #3 violent assault city in the nation in terms of frequency.

I prefer "peasant"
I sold my "Ferrari" HK a while back
I've looked at an M&P in 9mm, a Sig P232 and a S&W SW990L and you are right, I want a Shield. But good ******* luck trying to get your hands on the ONE SKU that is the "CA Approved" version.
Product: Smith & Wesson M&P SHIELD
It has "the thing that goes up"

In other news:
I've checked more than a dozen online firearm retailers. Nobody has anything in stock.

Ok gun nuts
I want a stupid rifle just because.
Budget is $100,000 but I would prefer something very cheap.
I just want it to work.
I don't need to shoot **** at 1000 yards.
100 or so yards is fine.
I want it to be EZ to maintain and reliable.
Doesn't need any tactical rails etc but I would like a scope because I can't shoot rifle for dick and I probably won't take the time to learn how to do so.
I also want it to be durable.
Any caliber that packs a wallop.
And.
Available for purchase now.
So. Recommendations?

E02K - I was going to suggest the SIG P232. Alternatively, have you looked at something like a "mini 1911?"
I can tell you my least favorite firearm to shoot is the LCP. One of my favorites was a single stack P225 but I am thinking it's too big for what you want. I do regret having gotten rid of it.
Have you looked at the SIG P250s at all? I haven't kept up with them, but they seemed pretty interesting when they first came out. Again, not single stack and maybe still too big even in the subcompact setup.
And yes, I'm a bit of a SIG-*****.

How much do you want to spend?
Do you want a semi-auto? Bolt?
My Savage 12 FCV is my absolute favorite gun, but I kind of prefer high-precision bolt-action shooting. I get plenty of AR time with the Army.
I'd also recommend getting a rifle chambered in .30 caliber or larger if you're looking for "wallup" power. .308 is a very highly mass-produced wallup round. Consider the 10 Series for a precision rifle. The Savage 10 FCP-K comes to mind.

Semi auto or bolt is fine. Thanks for the caliber recommendation. I'll go with .308.
So are these Savage rifles pretty available still?

We all have our own failings I appreciate the suggestions none the less.
Shield and P232 are frontrunners currently. I forgot to mention the Walther P99 & PPK as there has been some interest expressed in these as well.
I don't particularly care what it ends up being, so long as she can shoot it comfortably and has confidence in her ability. I'm not afraid of a .380 or even a .32ACP as in reality, either would get the job done.

1. The P6 surplus models suffer from excessively heavy DA pulls (designed to light off even the toughest NATO surplus ammo). A spring swap helps, but it still doesn't bring the DA pull down to typical SIG DA/SA levels.
2. The combination of being nearly full-size and only 8+1 9mm meant that it was only a range toy for me. I had a smaller guns for carry, and more powerful guns for nightstand duty. And if something is going to be nothing but a range toy for me...it's got to be a .22 -- anything else is too expensive for me to shoot for fun these days.
It did set off a series of interesting trades for me. I bought the P6 from CDNN for $260. Then I swapped it straight up for a Glock 30. I sent the Glock 30 to Boresight Solutions for a grip reduction and some other work ($600). Then I traded the customized Glock 30 straight up for a Springfield Armory SOCOM 16 rifle. Then I traded the SOCOM 16 for a Colt Mustang .380 plus $1000. Then I sold the Colt Mustang for $500.

Savage-Stevens 17748 200 308 $373.00 SHIPS FREE
Savage-Stevens 200 chambered in .308. Mount a pro-staff 3-9 scope on it and call it a day.
Oh, you'll find no resistance getting ahold of one of these. There are no reasons for a gun like this to be "endangered"

I don't really know to be honest, but from the research I've done, I don't think 5.56 would be big enough for a boar, and defiantly not big enough if I ever decided to hunt anything bigger. I'm thinking about either an SKS or a Mosin Nagant, but I want to explore my options before buying anything.

If you want a new rifle, there is currently one standout in the "budget" bolt-action lineup. The Ruger American. Stick to .308 or 30-06. Both are ballistically close enough that the average guy shouldn't care. In the end, the .308 is a shorter action with less recoil, but doesn't get quite as far out as the 30-06. For shots inside 500yds against deer, .308 is a better choice. For shots outside 500yds against larger-than-deer, you should look at .300 Winmag.
The first 2 guns on this page:
Ruger Centerfire Bolt-Action Rifles
A decent rifle with decent ammo and a guy who knows what he's doing will outgroup and outdistance a $5k rig any day if the guy on the trigger has a better technique. Get some instruction by a guy who is proficient in long-range shooting.
Here is your .308 or 30-06 scope that is plenty for your needs:
Nikon ProStaff Waterproof 3-9x40 Riflescopes Rifle scope 6320 6311 6310 3-9x40mm
In bolt-action, you want a .308, especially for medium to large sized animals. Wild boar are very tough animals, not just big hairy pigs... very heavily built and do not go down easy.
You can also go with a semi-auto shotgun... rifled slugs inside 100yds are instantly lethal... go with a rifled barrel and shoot 3" Federal magnum sabots for 300yd lethality... highly recommend a pistol-grip stock.
Coyote needs nothing more than .223... your average Coyote is only slightly larger than a beagle. A .308 center-punch to a Coyote will damage the pelt badly. If you "want" something bigger than .223, then it's a good excuse to get a 6.8SPC upper for you AR.
If you have to have a new gun, it's a good excuse to get a smaller centerfire bolt-action if you're talking about 300yds or less... .204 Ruger, 22-250, .220Swift.
^^^^^^^^
What these 2 questions point out is that the AR15 is just about the best all around firearms investment you can make... with uppers available in:
.223/5.56
5.45
.22lr
9mm
6.8 SPC
6.5 Grendel
7.62x39
.50Beowulf
.450Bushmaster
.458 SOCOM
even... .50BMG/.338Lapua etc...
You have a versatile weapon that can be swapped from a Coyote slicer to a Grizzly grinder in about 20 seconds. No other gun I can name off the top of my head is a better tool.
