Default Wow acetylene

I was linked to this thread: Local FJ Cruiser goes Boom! - CK5 Blazer Forums

------------------------------

Quote "So my time almost came to an end this morning... im very lucky to be alive.

First of all, GO HUG YOUR WIFE/HUBBY and tell them you love them.

i had an acetylene bottle in my truck, the valve was bumped so slightly and over night the truck filled with the gas. i noticed the smell, and opened the doors to air out the truck. i drove the truck out of the garage to get some more air movement. i went to roll the pass side window down and as soon as i touched the power windows. BAM. with me in the truck. i lost all hearing out of my right ear and got a scratch on the back of my head. all things considering, im alive.

so now ive got the question out to toyota about a 2012 TT. 125 to canada only, 15 in standard. i want a standard...

pictures tell 1000 words.

dont take any minutes or seconds you have for granted... it may be your last...

peace everyone,"

And on to the pic's:

1. How did he SURVIVE that?
2. Why would you start it if you smell the gas, say nothing about any of the other stuff with switches.

I think acetylene inside of a FJ smells like BS.

Wait...it's a Toyota. Perhaps there's a recall on the window switches?

As with other sites... I call major BS for him being in it. He probably put it in driveway... filled with gas... hit remote and BOOM

A while ago my GF woke up to the smell of gas all the way upstairs, dog had put his paws up on the stove to lick a pan and turned one of the burners on without lighting it. I told her to open as many windows as she can on her way out the door and meet me at the corner of the street. You don't mess with that kind of potential energy.

Based on the amount of force it would take to do that to all of the body panels, I'm guessing he wasn't in it. If so, he would be dead from the procusion from the acetylene/oxygen mixing. Sorry, I don't buy it either.

There is NO WAY IN HELL someone was inside that thing and walked away with only "lost hearing in one ear and a scratch on the back of the head".

Yeah. I'm with the "he filled it and bleeped the remote" theory. If the power window switch had done it, the point of ignition would have been either at the switch, or at the motor in the door. But it's the rear of the car that's catastrophically destroyed while the front doesn't look that bad. And - the window switch lit it off, but the starter didn't? I disbelieve.

I assume the main purpose of having this stuff around is for welding? I'd think the pressure wave would defiantly kill any person inside the vehicle, although having the windows open during the time of the explosion may account for the mans survival if indeed he was in the vehicle. Remember Operation Valkyrie? Hitler survived that assassination attempt b/c windows in the bunker where open.

*Operation Valkyrie was a plot to assassinate Hitler, even though he was in a bunker with the bomb went off he was not killed because windows where opened at the time and thus the pressure in the bunker was did not get to a fatal level during the blast.

This.

I knew a contractor who built a huge custom home on a hill in the Napa Valley area while the economy was tanking in '08 and he was glad to have the work. His total cost into the home was around $2M, and the owner refused to pay his bill. After about a year of trying to get money from the guy, the contractor waited until he was gone on vacation, went to the house with about 10 fans which he placed all around the house in sort of a swirl effect. He lit a candle in the top far corner of the house and turned on a burner in the kitchen in the basement. Pieces of the house were supposedly landing miles away. Contractor went to jail, owner made off with insurance money.

Oh, I thought he said he had a truck. He just had a 4x4 minivan. If he had a real truck it would be safely strapped in the bed and all would be wonderful even if he did have a leak.

My guess by the lack of damage from the drivers door is he was between the car and the open door when it blew. ******* amazing to be alive wherever he was if this is legit.

Its interesting how it looks like the mixture combusted so quickly that nothing else had time to catch fire. I don't see anything that looks burnt.

Guys, i want you to know this is a very true story. Thats my best friend Craig and I heard it was a true story.

It also happened to me once when i had propane in my car and i lit up a smoke and it exploded, lucky for it only scared me and scratched my neck a bit.

Now pass this story on to 10 people and say praise allah 100 times to receive 100 virgins in the next 5 minutes.

Just to add to the conversation. A friend of mine was in my driveway with an acetylene bottle....

This is completely retarded but he was filling up a garbage bag with the gas, then filling the rest with helium. He'd tie the bag and attach a toilet paper wick... He'd let the bag float up quite a bit and then lite the toilet paper. It would float up very high to the point where it looked like a dot in the sky. Then BOOM! The burning toilet paper would catch the bag.. A huge orange explosion and a second or two later you'd hear the noise.

Anyways- He was filling one of the bags and I was sitting maybe 10 feet from him when it exploded. It blew my chair back and I landed on my feet. I couldn't see anything but I started to run. Every time I tried to open my eyes all that could be seen was the big orange ball from the explosion that was burned into my eyes. A few minutes later I started to regain my vision but I couldn't hear anything but ringing.

He ended up in the hospital. It tore through his denim jeans in a Z looking pattern. Blew all of the buttons off of his shirt and his shirt pocket was completely un-stitched. He had a couple of serious burns but he's alright now.

The crazy part is - This all happened over 20 feet from my house and the panels of siding were bowed out from the blast. The aluminum under my overhangs had been caved in. It's impressive how much it didn't tear us to pieces but had such an effect on my house.

Didn't Mythbusters do precisely this while testing a scene from one of the Bourne movies?

The result was a charred interior and some structural failure (a wall blew partially away from the structure) but no Hollywood-style explosion.
