What is wrong with kids these days?

The kids apparently have written apologies and at least one parent has suggested - in a nice old school way - to have the kid come over to the bus monitor's house and do work to attempt to make it up to her.

Take out a peice of paper.
Now crumple it up and stomp on it, and throw it around, call it bad names.
Now, unfold it and try to make it like new again. Apologize to the peice of paper for abusing it, tell it your sorry for the pain you caused. Really, apologize to it!
Did you get the paper flat and new again? no?
You might be able to apologize to it, but the damage is permanent, bro. think about it.

New action plan:
Put Sandusky in a nice little cottage in the corner of the prison yard...send these kids to "chill" with him for a few days...one at a time. They deserve it. Fucking little snot-nosed bastards. I'm on the "not having kids" boat. I was my *** handed to me by my parents as a chile...and I think I turned out pretty OK. Kids need this.

i don't get it.
people hate the way kids behave and then decide NOT to have kids.
when the real solution would be to HAVE kids and raise them not to be little bratty jerks who terrorize people.
the latter resulting in a higher percentage of non-assshole kids.

Honestly, if you love your kids and you spend half as much time raising them as you do researching your large electronics purchases, they'll probably come out nice people.

That's some serious parenting failure right there. Had they been raised to have respect for people and not be loud mouth little ------s, this type of situation wouldn't occur. It would have never crossed my mind when I was that age to talk to an old lady like that. It was always yes maam and no maam. Speaking even 1/10 as bad as that would get my teeth slapped out of my face. Parent are becoming more and more their children's friend, and that isn't what they need. I watch my aunt raise my two cousins (12 and 14) and she has always tried to be their best friend. It doesn't work like that.
At this point, isn't that $ figure more of a very good retirement, not vacation?

Sad story, I stepped up and donated to the cause myself yesterday. Buut...
Koto's spot on. If you raise the kids to be douches, they'll be douches. If you raise them to be respectful, they'll be respectful. The parents failure to raise their children in this case, however, is absolutely spectacular. Unfortunately, there's been parenting failure this spectacular for millenia, but what do you do? Take away the children from bad parents?
You just don't let it get that bad in the first place.
Don't get me wrong - my kids (two girls, 2 and 5) aren't perfect, but they're very well behaved. We regularly get compliments from others about how our kids are minding their own business, saying please and thank you, etc. It all comes down to discipline.
I'm staying with a friend and his family right now. They barely discipline their daughters, who are the same age as mine. I bite my tongue every day. The eldest tries to boss everyone around her around and gets away with murder.

It is lazy parenting to resort to yelling and slapping after you've already raised your kids to be jerks.
