I say vapor trail because I think some people think it could be a plane of some sort; I feel some other country is testing out their new jl-2 and associated submarine, hence why the government knew nothing about it.

Can be read about here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11731014

What do you think it was?

If you're talking about the "event" recorded in California, it's just a jet aircraft contrail. When something's that far away, and ascending either towards or away from you, you have no depth perspective so it looks like it's going straight up. Also speed appears to be constant. Rockets accelerate.

Nothing to see here folks. Carry on.

This. Coming right at you from over the horizon, or near the horizon, it will look this way. I've seen them look similar. This one was probably coming across the Pacific in our idrection since the low end is all puffy and spread out. It does look a bit funny though, but weird things happen like that.

Aircraft or not, I can tell you that it does look like a ground to air missile trail, I worked at a SAM site for about a year and we did several training shots, looks very similar to me.

I have very little flight time (ie zero) so I can honestly say I have never seen that particular phenomenon but I have seen my fair share of icbm launch video's and it does look quite similar.

Speculation is fun!!

That's not far from where Burt Rutan's shop is. Maybe it's SpaceShip3.

Toyota is coming out with a new hybrid jet aircraft...

....the accelerator got stuck open on the prototype though, and it defaulted into solid fuel mode....

I'm not sure what time that shot was taken, but it looks like the late afternoon, around sunset. I remember seeing an actual missile(or satellite?) launch from Glendale Ca in 05 or 06 around sunset.

It was way cooler than that photo. The bottom of the trail was tinted deep red by the sunset, and as it got higher up in the sky, it transitioned to a bright white, complete with all the other colors of the sunset refracting through it on the way up. Finally it came to a much more narrow point than the one in that photo.

It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen in the sky. Too bad the cellphone I had it on **** the bed before I could get the pics I took off.

I watched the clip and it defintely does not look like a plane to me. But I woke up this morning and we arent all dead, so thats a plus.

Can someone go by this dude's house to check in on him? If he's still alive, this post is bullshit.

Soooo, only one plane out of hundreds in the air could leave this phenom?
One leaving Pheonix, AZ. was spotted leaving the ground the very same day at around the same time. Guy who spotted was veteran pilot and had suspicions that it was not a plane. Don't the contrails need to be at a certain altitude vs. ground level?

I thought it was a Viral Ad Campaign for the Black Ops COD coming out party!
