How are you defining a basic turbo Miata and how are you determining that it's slower? I would think 230 WHP and 200 ft-lbs is pretty on-par for a basic turbo Miata. Granted, it's about 300-400 lbs heavier than an NA8 Miata so that will have some effect.
Then again, it might also have a superior chassis that allows it to turn quicker lap times at comparable power levels despite the heavier weight.

I'm making 240whp/220ftlbs at around 2300lbs. Nothing exotic. And that's with my dying 1.6.
As for lap times, I almost guarantee it would beat out most "basic" turbo miatas. It's definitely a superior chassis. Like I said, i understand this cars potential and I'm not really talking ****. More just pointing it out.

This car is out for not even a year and there's already like 5 turbo kits and 2 supercharger kits as well as other stuff.
Our cars have been out for like 20 years and people are just now making decent power and having nice setups for a decent price.
AT this rate the brz/frs is going to **** on our graves in 10 years.
Look at the NC miata: ******* PATHETIC. 2 turbo kits or something gay like that, and one of them is designed by downs survivors. I'm sorry but in a few years this car is going to kick ***......or maybe something will happen and it will fail. But how its lookin now, I'm going to say its going to be a huge success
Just sayin
*EDIT: and with the amount of gay retarded underaged emo homosexuals acquiring miatas and "hellaflushing" them out and "d0r1ftoring" them, I'm actually considering jumping ship in a year or two and enjoy something that is too expensive for the average ********** to ruin.

Point taken, vlad. I'd love to have a BRZ, but at the price its just not in the cards for me anytime soon. I've got my sights set on a FD or a s2000 down the road, but until I can comfortably afford to modify one I'm sticking with the miata as my toy.

Truth:
I would buy one ten or fifteen years from now if it were a ragtop.
But it's a hardtop.
Am I seriously the only one for whom this is an absolute deal-killer?

I am with Vlad. Much like I bought my old Corvette despite it being a Chevy, I bought the Miata despite it being a convertible. I would have preferred a coupe without a doubt.

I bought my miata despite it being a convertible. Having never owned one and only hearing bad things about them from everyone other than chicks I was pre-prejudiced. However, now that I have had a convertible I love it and will probably continue to own one as long as I live in an area like I do now where I can have to top down 95% of the time.
The fun factor of my miata is atleast doubled with the top down.

I can relate to this.

I will say that I enjoyed the targa on my C5 and I did do a lot of top-down driving in my S2000 when the weather warranted. However, when it was too hot, was raining, my wife didn't want to mess her hair up, I wanted to be able to have a conversation at speed, etc - top up driving was a significant compromise.

We all hate the outdoors in general, and convertibles specifically.
I put the soft top up this morning *after* I arrived at work, because it was raining. First time in at least a month. It can be 50°F outside and I will have the top down along with a jacket and gloves, with the heater keeping my feet nice and warm.
Also, Braineack, wear a damn hat. Hell, I wear one, and I have hair. It is made of an attractive dark cloth and has the logo of a local microbrewery stitched into it.

Well I know for me it comes down to practicality. My wife and I are planning on having kids in a few years, so daily driving the Miata isn't really going to work out well. I may keep it for a track car, but that will depend on funding. More than likely I'll get a FRS/BRZ and sell the Miata to pay for some mods.
