They are like the sams club brand of the gun industry. Cheap as ****, come in an ugly package. But still shoots holes in things the same.

I used to have a Hi Point 40. It was a huge brick. I paid 120 for it NIB. I sold it for 100, and then bought a Ruger P89. (Which was a great reliable gun.) Then I got an XD45 5'' Tactical/Walther P22/Keltec PLR16. My favorite pistol so far is my Walther though with the HM2 conversion.
those 177 rounds are a blast to shoot. And most people think you are firing a 9mm, till they see the size of the holes.
Back on point about Hi-point though, They serve a purpose, but they are cheap and heavy. On a positive note, they do work. And work well. Trigger pull is aweful, the slide is gigantic, the mags are crap. But yes, you can shoot them, and they will put holes through things. Its a great "let your friends shoot it at the range" Gun.

If you are speaking of weapons in use in the Mid-East and SW Asia, odds are they are using too much lubricant and gumming up the works with a "sand slurry".
Yes, the AK is the Timex of automatic weapons, however properly maintained the M-16/M-4/AR-15 family (as well as the AR-10 variants) will more than reliably meet my needs.
(And in all honesty, I'll most likely grab another .308 instead of the .223...)
