Should I buy a spiffy new/almost new car?

I'd be more afraid of an audi than a caddy, maintenance-wise. Vw products make my buddy w/ the shop a lotta money... Audis are fine if you don't keep them past 80k-ish miles.

I like the part where you said "Manual is probably preferred unless it's some baller tiptronic type thing" and then you justify the auto forester by saying the auto is required for mundane DD stop and go traffic things.
So do you prefer a manual in your new awesome-o car or do you need an auto?

You'd go for the M3 but your afraid of the Caddy's maintenance? Why exactly? Have you looked at the 335d? There are plenty of them around in auto, and the maintenance will be easier them with an M car. Having said that, check out the E39 M5 too, I think it has the look your after.
Also, can you list what you want and what you need in the car? Do you want new or used? Do I understand correctly that $50K is the ceiling, it must have an auto, it must be 4 or 5 doors with the ability to comfortably seat 4 adults, and it'd be nice if the whip is nice enough to impress clients/business associates, without being over the top?
I like playing this game.

I want a COUPE. Fufk 4 people. Two is enough. My business associates can suck dicks in a tiny back seat.
Sure 50K is ceiling. Cheaper is better. I don't like spending big coin on shi that depreciates like mad.
I only want to impress myself and increase my quality of life index. I spend so much time in car that I figure it should be kinda nice ya know?
I want used. Prob like 10-20k miles. Buying new offends my sense of sensible cents sensibility.
335D looks like BIG BONER. I think HF Mr. Norway has one and shii i bet that mothrfukr would love some mods

Traded an S-Class for my G8. Couldn't be happier. Everything works. Everything will still work in 20 years. LS motor FTW. 40,000 miles and four oil changes to date. That's it. Oh, yeah, I did put some decent tires on it.
If you're afraid of maintenance on a US car and are considering European, I can only conclude that you've never owned a European. If you think they'll take the abuse that you dish, you're sadly mistaken.

Just checked Autotrader, there are GT-Rs in the upper $50K range. The only downside is you'd get bitten by the tuner bug and end up never being satisfied with any amount of power in the miata.

I'd say no to $50k or anything that will require a car payment. Cash only man - let all of those lower paid coworkers throw away their hard earned cash on depreciating assets.
If I was in the market for a nice, realiable, fun daily to pair with a highly boosted Miata, I'd probably just get an E46 M3 and call it a day. $15-20k.
