Default School me on Xbox 360

Thinking about picking one up. Newegg has a pretty good deal on them. No shipping and you get a $50 gift card with purchase. Is there anything else I should be looking for? All I plan to do with it is play games. No movie, video or music storing.

Thanks

The newer ones are good to go. I had a old one that broke, I sent it in once, and then it broke again. I sold it on ebay and got a brand new one a couple months ago. No problems as of yet.

Today I got COD5 World at war and it is ******* awesome. I would definitely recommend it if your into FPS.

I don't own a 360 or ps3, but I have plenty of experience with both. I'd say the 360 does have a few more issues than the ps3, but way better games. Yes sony has gt5, but the prologue sucks. you don't have halo, or forza, two very good games. and then there's cod5

I'd like some school'in on this too.

Was interested in maybe picking one up now that they're advertised base system for $199.99. With proper cabling will this show 1080i picture on my tv or is that what the Elite is all about?

Bought an Original xbox a few years ago and used it a lot, but got pissed when it died on me after not using it for two weeks.. I still have a version 1.0 PS2 thats still kicking strong... So I'm a little angry about the Xboxs dvd drive crapping out..

Not all Xbox 360's come with HDMI outputs. Make sure you read the specs either in store, or online to make sure its a HDMI 360.

The elite's have a bigger HD, have HDMI, and they are black. I'm not sure if any of the actual hardware inside is different.

If you get a base model, I'll sell you my spare hard-drive for cheap.

Well I don't *NEED* HDMI output. RGB is capable of handling 1080i, you need HDMI for 1080p and since I don't have a 1080p TV and don't plan on replacing my 4000$ TV within the next 10 years..

So basically the Elite isn't anything I need? Cool.

Yes, if you're getting a X360, make sure you get the Jasper - that's the one with the smaller GPU and CPU. Avoid the Xenon (that's the original - very RROD prone. Falcons are better (smaller CPU) but the GPU is still the same size as the Xenon so the GPU consumes the same amount of energy/produces same amount of heat (and the GPU heat is the RROD source). They put a second GPU heatsink on the Falcon so it is much more RROD prone, but still why get it since the Jasper is out.
The Jasper has the GPU smaller while keeping both heatsinks and runs much cooler.
You can recogonize the Jasper by the 150W power supply (look at the sticker). It also has a 256MB memory card built in.
The 256MB built-in memory is so it can have NXE (the New Xbox Experience) installed without the need to buy a memory card or a hard drive (what the Xenon and Falcon need for NXE).

Here is a screenshot of the PSU you should be looking for:

even with all the problems the original 360's have you can't knock on microsfots effort to fix it. they do all of the exchanges for free. we dont even pay for shipping.

granted they shouldn't be dieing so early on but still.

Anyone know anything about modding it? I keep seeing games constantly getting released for xbox360 on the net. Since these games are all about 5 gigs each, am i able to put them on the internal harddrive and boot them up after modding it?

idk how on the 360, but my original xbox has a 200gig hd in it with elmulators for gameboy, n64, nes, snes, genesis, and ps1. i have every game ever made for n64, nes, snes, genesis, and game boy, and a couple games for ps1.

also have a bunch of xbox games and dvd's saved on it too and still have like 120+gigs left lol

I have four modded 360's. You cannot load games on an upgraded HD like you did with the XBox1 but you can hack the DVD player so that it can play backup DVDs. Those games you see are ISOs that need to be burnt on DVD and they can be played after that. If you were interested, you would need to buy a good DVD-DL burner, some good DVD-DL blanks, and then upgrade your 360's DVD firmware. You might also look into buying a good DVD reader and upgrade its firmware so it can read the 360 DVDs. Good = stuff known to work well with this type of hack.

FWIW, I sold my four hacked XBox1s and bought four 360s. The graphics are better but the lack of co-op games that can be played across a network make me wish I still had my XBox1s here. They just don't make games to be played outside of XBox Live and you don't want to log on to there if you have hacked your box.
