you can always make money, but you cannot make time, that should be more important to you, that's something I am just now realizing
now i work about 70 hrs a week between my work and own thing, i am doing it to be able to work less in the near future, i am tired of working all the time, don't wear yourself out, spend time with your family while you can, get your priorities straight

I don't know how qualified I am to give advice, but my life seems to have turned out OK, so here goes:
I think you should do what makes you happy. If working your ***** off and maintaining good grades works, cool. Trust me - your girlfriend is being a pain in the ***** now, but she's still just practicing. Another 5 or 8 years and she'll be an artist. When I was 18, I worked 30 hours a week during school, 60 during vacations, and I had a world-class ballbuster for a girlfriend(BTW - she's turned into my buddy's ex-wife
. He didn't learn from my experience).
It all changed with college - I assume that's where you're headed, since you're so aware of your GPA. College needs time for social duties and getting sloppy drunk and chasing women in between the sheer terror and grunt work of getting your degree. THAT will be when work needs to take the back seat.
BTW - the main reason my life is turning out OK was finding a wife who isn't needy or high-maintenance, and who actually likes my cars and will even pitch in fixing them so long as there's not too much grease involved. It was a very rare and big break, but I know there's more out there.

One of the girls I use to work with, she is only 2 years older than me, she loves cars, and has a camaro show car of her own, and a probe beater for daily driving in the winter. Valedictorian of her class, and has near perfect grades in college, in a science major, eek for hard. She practically lives at her boyfriend's house, and they both do work on their cars together all the time. And she is so caring and understanding of everything, just such a great person, and they have such a great relationship, I really wish my girl was like that, but she isn't. I really think she just needs some time to mature now, and I think next week, after it has been a solid 3 weeks of what I told her "taking a break", I am going to tell her we should be friends for a while until I think she has matured enough. I am not even going to my senior prom because of her. I don't want to be around her after the crap she pulled. And my dad told me again tonight he wants me to do some other stuff. So I think he is still worried about me working, but he knows it is necessary for me to do while going to college so I can pay for it, as much as he doesn't say it is. Still have a bunch of stuff going on, hopefully everything calms down by the time I graduate in mid may. I will need to sort things out then.

terrible advice. Your brain will rot.
Seriously though. your dad is kinda right. Chill out some man. My car is a pretty big goal of mine, and I have so much crap I'd like to buy for it. But I have more fun hanging out with friends and having people to give rides to in the miata rather than going places by myself. This kinda crap doesn't work in college, you burn out if you don't keep an active social life. Your balance at school shouldn't be work or school work. it should be friends or school work, and it should be pretty hard to maintain.
You should take up fewer hours at work, not for your G/F for yourself.
