Photography: what do you own?

Edit -
Shoot to the right of your histogram without clipping the highlights too much.
"Let's assume for the purposes of illustration that a digital SLR has a dynamic range of 5 stops (it's usually closer to 6 stops, but let's not quibble). When working in RAW mode, which you should be, most cameras record a 12 bit image. (Yes, we say it's in 16 bit mode, but the reality is that it's only recording 12 bits in a 16 bit space. Better than 8, but not as good as a real 16 bits would be).
A 12 bit image is capable of recording 4,096 (2^12) discrete tonal values. One would think that therefore each F/Stop of the 5 stop range would be able to record some 850 (4096 / 5) of these steps. But, alas, this is not the case. The way that it really works is that the first (brightest) stop's worth of data contains 2048 of these steps — fully half of those available.
Why? Because CCD and CMOS chips are linear devices. And, of course, each F/Stop records half of the light of the previous one, and therefore half the remaining data space available. This little table tells the tale.'

dood there are some nice pics in this thread.
Body: canon full size frame, crop sensor
Lenses: some primes and short and long zoom
Tripod: shitty
Flashes/Strobes: couple of cactus V radios paired to Yongnuo YN-560. when i bought them while back the cactus radio and flash together was $90. cheap enough where you could get a couple to do interesting off camera flash stuff. IE: strobist.com.
storage/travel bag:?
other accessories:? a few rosco gels (sample pack here: )
Post Processing:? too lazy
i've also made a couple snoots and gel organizers and i travel with all that crap in a waterproof pelican case. great way to travel.
acccessories: meike mk-80n3 remote trigger/time lapse timer thingy

I have the 400 and 700; see my bag.
I felt the same way about the 400 so I wanted to go with the sb-600, but they have been discontinued and the 700 is the replacement. I ended up buying a refurb on sale and it was as cheap as the last remaining sb-600s available at the time.
I'm pretty darn happy with it, it has tons of bells and whistles and does an awesome job exsposing. It registers if you put the filters on it and auto-whitebalances for them. The zoom-motor is fast and quite and power cycles very fast. With regular copper-tops, I've probably falshed it 200 times or so now, and still has plently of battery life (uses 4 batteries).
The menu systme on the flash is pretty simple, easy to adjust the power output on the fly. I do get annoyed that it will shut out of some modes when the diffuser filter is attached, or the bounce card is put up, but it does exspose well. It also doesn't lock-out when a non-nikon lens is attached...if you got like a Bower flash or something, and tried a lenes outside its range or brand it won't even fire. Mine works in TTL with my Tamron 10-24 and with my 55-300 lens...
It has tons of umpfh behind it where the sb400 doesn't. I still put the 400 on when I dont want a bulky thing and im in a smaller setting, but the 700 is making me happy so far.
The one thing I'm mad about is that my d3100 cant trigger it remotely, so I have to use the sb400 to bounce-fire and trigger the sb700 as a slave if I wanna do any cool off camera flash shots. Other, better, cameras, IIRC, can trigger it in remote-master mode.
this was with flash:
had the diffuser on, 90° angle towards subject.

New gear: Chinee flashes, Sigma 10-20, remote trigger and receivers for flashes, stands, umbrella's, sandbags, rig, and a new bag. It has been a fun past few weeks
