you shoot Sony not Canon. Expose for highlights, recover shadows.
for example, this is a similar shot. I used center-weighted metering to make sure the areas in sun were exposed properly, then I pulled out detail in the foreground where it looked like silhouette on the LCD.

I have PLENTY of recovery, here's just 3 stops:
I would always rather make sure no whites are clipped before any blacks are clipped. Be proud of your Sony sensor.
At least you didn't make the white areas gray. I have a pet peeve against that, when people try to reduce the exposure after the fact and make it look unnatural. It's either blown out or it's not.
Here's my latest set: Arsenal of Democracy World War II Victory Capitol Flyover

This is Fern Canyon at the Redwoods National Forest in Northern California. Also a site were I yelled at Jeanne to marry me from sheer adrenaline of a 7 mile hike and nerves.

The baby's been keeping us busy, so I haven't been able to spend much time out and about shooting. Tried my hand at shooting my cars interior, driveway photo shoot.

It's too bad the RX100 mk iv suffers from an overheating problem recording 4k video, otherwise I'd spend the $900 on the upgrade from my mk ii. That dram on the back of the sensor in a small body, temps climb, camera shuts down lol.
Made my pocket camera less pocketable
Sony ECMGZ1M mic

is it more than a rumor yet?
so far I like it, but it's sooooo different than a DSLR. I'm getting used to all the functions but it focuses pretty damn fast and seems to work well. Nice having a D3300/5300/7200 sensor in a tiny little body.
I'm getting an adapter for it to put my nikon lenses on it, it'll be manual only, but should be fine for special stuff.
11FPS is hilarious.

Maybe the a6000 would be nice for when I want to go out and take photos, leaving the rx100 for hiking, traveling / sight seeing, or if the wife wants to take baby pics in auto mode. The other obstacle is I'd have to start buying lenses, and man sony glass is pricey.
Also, have you used the EVF? Any good, or meh?

a rumor. The A7000 is just a rumor. Sony has not announced it.
the lcd panel is techincally an EVF.
but yeah i hate the EVF. It's dumb and hard to see anything through it or the information around the edges. its a waste of space.
