Jelly of Buell hooliganism.

So I have a friend who is in this contest. They made a hilarious video about a Yamaha love story. I'd share it regardless of the circumstances, but in this case they're in the running to win a new Yamaha if they get the most votes, and they're currently in second place.

Check it out, and if you like it, hit the love it button. You'll have to connect with Facebook or enter an email address, then HIT THE LOVE IT BUTTON AGAIN.

The poster is a good friend's wife, they're awesome people and it'd be fun if they won. Even if you don't vote, the video is great, so watch it either way.

Link:A Yamaha Love Story

Awesome video.
I got my Akrapovic full Ti system on order. ECU will be going out for a tune when the exhaust ships. Can't wait to hear how it sounds and feels after the mods.

I may have paid more for my 250 (new from dealer in 2012) than any of my cars. But its been cheaper so far. 60-70mpg depending how hard I beat it. Put over 14k mi on it and all Ive done so far is oil changes and a new rear tire at 12k. Almost time for a chain and front tire though.
In my experience riding 600cc+ sport bikes, tires kill your running costs (even if you run sport touring tires), and the MPG isn't that much better than a reasonable car. In that scenario, I agree that you'll never financially justify running one, even if bought relatively cheap. Parts costs are also ridiculous, compared to cars, if you keep it long enough to need things like brake discs or suspension. Chains and sprockets aren't expensive, but will be a nagging recurring cost on a sport bike that gets ridden big miles.
I'm not saying that it's not worth doing; I'm saying that it isn't cheaper in that case than driving a car.

Miata count as a commuter car?
FZ-09 count as a sport bike?
So far, my bikes have been WAYY cheaper than my cars. But they don't see the miles or abuse my cars do... Anything that gets used during our winters here gets the most abuse unfortunately.

Been looking for a new street bike off and on since the beginning of this year. I love having a supermoto but I needed something that could tackle the freeways a bit easier. Initially, I started looking for a Triumph Street Triple R, but none were in the price range I wanted or needed a bunch of work and the owners wanted too much $$$. Then I found this gem at a local dealer (for stupid cheap) and jumped on the FZ-09 love train this weekend.
Came with a full Akro exhaust, PIAA headlight/parking lights, fender eliminator, frame sliders (useless) and some terrible Shinko tires. It desperately needs improved suspension, steering damper and better tires. Overall couldn't be happier, especially with the motor...it is infinitely better than the Triumph's. Having torque everywhere makes it much more entertaining to ride in the city.
Anyone messed with shock retrofits?

Love the black with blue wheels... great looking bike!
I know Traxxion Dynamics has kits for the front, and Penske shocks for the rear. High end stuff, but totally transforms the bike.
You can probably get 80% of the above with Racetech stuff, and a basic rear shock, but I don't know if Racetech has a fork kit for the FZ yet.

Looks awesome man. Suspension on them isn't the greatest, but I've had worse.
Does it have a tune? These bikes really benefit from a tune especially with an exhaust.
Steering damper is next on my list too.

I don't think it has a tune or even the recall flash from Yamaha. The throttle is incredibly touchy in STD mode. That or I suck and I've spent to much time on my supermoto. With the full exhaust it snaps and pops constantly during engine braking, but under WOT the bike sounds like an animal.

I'll be having him tune my ECU when I get my new exhaust. Everyone says it makes a HUGE difference.
Touchy throttle sucks. 1st gear turns in A mode have almost thrown me off.

Well. If i were to add all the money I've spent on my miata, and all the money I've spent on my buell, including the purchase cost of both, then the bike is definitely cheaper. Even adding in consumables, such as tires, brakes, rotors, maintenance, etc. And tires do NOT last long on a Buell. rear tire got about ~3000 miles last time.
Let alone insurance, which the motorcycle is also cheaper.
Then, if i calculate the enjoyment i get out of each, again, i could say the motorcycle comes ahead pretty easily.
Now, if you calculate cost/enjoyment ratio, the motorcycle soars ahead.
This is not even calculating in gas, which my MC gets close to 50mpg.
Not hating on the miata at all. it will never be sold. Just at this point in my life, with my lifestyle, the bike is a higher priority than the miata for me.
