87 ft/in torque too much? - MX-5 Miata Forum

I recently changed my tires at costco, they torqued my lugs to 87 instead of 86 according to the receipt. Soon after, I could smell this burning smell. At first I thought i was slipping my clutch too much but when i got out i could smell it from the brakes. :/ is 87 too much? or maybe they over torqued my lugs without looking at what was recommend? Thanks in advance!

I'm surprised nobody suggested, "That's the smell of brain cells frying."

...and I wonder why I stopped posting in that **** pile. What retard would even begin to think that 1ft-lb over torque on a wheel lug would cause any problem, let alone a smell and clutch slipping. That sends logic in every direction.

Or what retard would use a phone mileage app to diagnose their car?

I stopped posting over there due to stupidity the first time, I stopped posting there for good when I returned and my logical info posts were called out multiple times as trolling.

I like m.net, anytime I have a stupid question that I'm too embarassed/scared to ask here, I just go ask over there. Those are a little over the top though!

Damn, I didn't realize it has been 2 years since my last thread over there, which was on my current tires. Last post was 6 months ago talking about how far the fuel needle goes before the tank is empty. Always such useful info over there.

You know, I have always had the same opinion over there, but now that I (exclusively) hang out the the Engine Conversions section, it's like the atmosphere here. Good people that actually DO things to their own cars, DIY builds, noobs summarily dismissed or even (gasp) berated for not searching, real help and informative threads, build threads beyond installing a windblocker, truly knowledgeable people and very little misinformation. It's all good.

I stay mostly in the Politics section and the north east section over there. I read the power forums, but hardly post.

I did this morning...Discount Tire for the win.

They also gave me a $216 credit on upgraded tires since they had sold the Falkens I had reserved (made appointment last week).

This meant we got a set of Michelins put on my wife's truck which should have cost almost $300 for just $60 more.

Always had good experiences there...and horrific experiences with Sears.
