Living nightmare
Well we lost power around 3 and it's been getting colder as it's been getting darker. Then my dad calls me and says he's on his was back from the job in PA and he ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere. He's older and takes coumadin for his arthritis so I was worried about him in the cold for too long. Luckily I was able to get the guy that he was working with able to find him thanks to google maps on this iPhone, so he's ok. This is after 2 hours back and forth on the phone between my dad, the brazilian guy and 911.
Worst part about all this is, the snow is so wet and heavy that it's taking down dozens of trees around our house in the woods non stop. The cracking and smashing has been going on for hours now. We're afraid one will come through the roof any second now, so both of us will be awake for the rest of the night. To top that off, about an hour ago a tree came down and landed on both of our cars. Thankfully I was driving the Taurus and she has full coverage in her Mazda 6. It hit my car so hard that the doors are flung wide open.
I'll take pics of the aftermath when the sun comes up. This is insane.

My yard is littered with busted trees. I watched a tree fall today in about 4 pieces, sling shot off the powerlines, and land on the road. My power went out, but it came back on about an hour later. This **** is crazy.

Yeah it's pretty bad everywhere around here I guess. Just sucks that we moved out here into the woods and are surrounded by hundreds of trees. The aniexty that the cracking and breaking sounds are giving me is ridiculous. I've never felt so helpless.
The tree hit the Taurus, thankfully it wasn't the miata. I'd be willing to bet my car is totaled and hers is a maybe. Can't tell due to the amount of snow out there.
No stove to burn wood and no generator. I actually don't even have a snow shovel yet! I didn't think we were getting this kind of storm. Last I looked it said 1-2 inches!!!! Lol
Really though, I'm just glad my dad is safe and out of the cold. He's too old to have to sit in the truck with no heat overnight so I was pretty worried. It's such a terrible feeling to know he needed help and feeling like I couldn't do anything about it. I owe my buddy nene a few drinks at the bar for finding him and keeping him safe.
Thanks for the kind words guys. Ill continue to sit here and listen to the trees fall all around me. I just pray none of the ones up high fall and hit the house. I'm not exactly sure how well rafters and plywood would hold up to a full sized branch dropping a hundred feet or more.

good to haer your dad is safe but sucks about the cars. everyone around here is losing power, thankfully we havent lost power yet but we had lights flickering all night. it sucks because its so early the leaves are still on the trees which picks up so much more snow than they normally would

we planted lettuce a couple weeks ago. **** got iced.
so I *DID* buy a snow shovel on Thursday before any of this snow nonsense was in the weather reports. Some smartass in Home Depot was lookin at me funny joking "are you expecting snow?" and I told him if you wait for snow, there wont be any more shovels.
I guess he can suck it.
Not that we got much here... snowed for a couple hours and didn't stick to anything but my miata (seriously, no snow anywhere but my car. wtf!)
Sorry to hear about your freakish night. Sometimes you wonder if it's better to just go to sleep and preemptively get some rest!
