Attachment 238862 No harbls, no gorging, no vomiting, no water dumping, no scratching up the furniture, no shitting up the place... I feel so blessed  She does have a habit of running amok at night and jumping on the bed at 2am, but otherwise she's a sweetheart. I almost wish she wasn't altered so she could pass these excellent traits on to other kitties. |
I've found over the years that feral kitties and kitties that have had tough lives outside seem to binge/purge more often than ones that come from loving litters.
And. The trait is often contagious. Once your normal indoor kitty learns there is a scarfing monster in the house, they often start scarfing too. Fought this for years the last time we added a new kitty to the house. The only thing I could come up with at the time were two automatic feeders... placed on an identical schedule... in two parts of the house. Then at least the metered food would be dispensed at the same time. Hopefully one for each cat. Never followed through with it... as it would have been close to $400 for a double setup. Might need to look into it again now that we've adopted a 2nd kitty. Thank god the GF works for a pet store. Employee discounts for the win. |

Ours do this too. You have to get the Pate type of wet food. Out cats breathe the stuff in.
He hates that, too. The only kind that he spends any sort of time with is the Meow Mix chunky stuff. I suspect because this is easier to lick the juices off, then come back to an hour or two later when the rest of it has dried out and is better suited for his eating. However, i'm told this is bad, and i shouldn't leave the food out until he eats it in the way he sees fit. Blah. I've tried probably near 50 different brands/flavors/varieties with him over the last years. No love for any of them. |
Barfing could be hairball issues.
make sure you check the barf for more than just food-shaped chunks. if there's hairy lumps, you might need to a) brush kitty, b) give kitty some digestion aid treats to lube things up. try to avoid the petroleum stuff. you can give them canned pumpkin. |

Tried some different food last night. Ive been feeding her Newmans Own which are small, dense little peices. So I tried some Science Diet food that she apparently used to eat with her old owner. The peices are larger and less dense.
Found this at my desk this morning Attachment 238860 FML |
What did pets eat before the invention of processed pet food?

Speaking of brushing, i was going over my munchkin just now and noticed that the top of her head where she rubs up against things is starting to get thin and almost looks raw.
Grrr. This cat is delicate. I mean there is nothing more cute and affectionate on this earth than a munchkin. But damn she is fragile. The other cat is a cement head. Scratch it real good, roll it around, brush it real good, feed it whatever it could care less. On the plus side, no puke! Yay. |

you mean what did cats eat before we domesticated them and forced them to eat various members of the rodentia order? good question. probably anything small that was fun to play with and catch. and grass to barf up.
The point is that I reject the idea that cats need special and balanced nutrients that can be found only in commercial cat food. In fact, I think it's decidedly bad for the animal (any animal) to have deliberately limited diet. Good grief, would you eat nothing but Human-Chow even if your doctor told you that it would be good for you? Why do we believe that only processed cat food provides the magical nutrients that our precious little one needs? Sorry, I like my cats too much to do that to them. |

Cats have been domesticated for thousands of years. I don't believe that people didn't feed their domestic pets until comparatively recently when processed, ready-to-eat cat food became available. People did feed them something before then, though I suppose that then as now the animals diet would have been supplemented by small prey.

I'm sure cats ate what I said they ate. animals that were catchable and fun. like how big cats eat. now human chow, that would be funny. http://theinfosphere.org/images/e/e8/Bachelor_Chow.jpg I tend to do like DaveC and switch between different bagged foods. When one starts getting low, I buy a new bag of whatever I'm switching to and gradually introduce the new food in with the old, stepping up the percentage over about a week or so. No drama, no vomiting. :bigtu: |
Actually it is, someone posted it before, maybe even me.

Definitive proof that humans are fun. |
From the few stories I've read, apparently it's very common in India for people to taunt the animals and/or go over the fence and get in the "exhibits" with them.
