So since the unplanned forced adoption of the two kitties, i've had to learn how to take care of them pretty much on the fly. I think i've been doing pretty good except for one thing.

I've tried to search a little on google, but it brings up just a bunch of opinions and nothing real solid.

So i have these two kitties, but i'm having a hard time trying to figure out their diets. Almost every day i come home from work and i find one has puked. I'm not sure what one, but i'm guessing my munchkin (fragile digestive system, i don't know). I've since cut off all treats. Only because i found that the big box of food that came with the cats has treats mixed in with it. (i think i'm going to scrap that food and start fresh(cat food expire?)) Every night when i eat dinner is when i fill their bowl (it helps with them not begging for people food), same amount each time, it seems to do good because every day i get home from work and there is just a few scrapings left. I try and get fresh cold water in their bowl as often as i can. Usually before i go to work, when i get home, and before bed. They are never out of water.

So i guess my question is, how the hell do i feed these cats? The puking obviously isn't normal but there are no other signs the cat is in any kind of distress. In fact, i think it's on the heavy side. Probably over eating.
I can't give them less food can i? The other one may not get enough.
Should i switch up the food? They seem to eat it just fine, in fact they crowd the bowl when i fill it, sometimes even wanting to jump inside of the food box.
Does time of day i fill the bowl matter?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, i know happy kitties is what we strive for around here. People with dual cats chime in too.

Try different brand food. Also do you have any plants? My cat has a stomach problem and eats grass when it has stomach ache and then pukes. It's just something we're used to at this point.. cat is 13 years old and has been puking since year 1. Vet says it's normal.

I have a few plants but nothing looks to be chewed on or ingested.

switching foods will always make a cat puke and shit all over.

here's how you cat:
give them a place to shit
give them food
give them water
give them toys


feed them in two separate bowls so they don't think they are fighting for food and gorging it.

If youre not feeding them wet food daily, you're opening yourself up to a lot of potential health issues.

Find a good brand grain free wet food and feed them that at least once a day. The moisture and easy to chewness will help a lot. I like Wellness.

ALSO: Changing their food can upset their digestive rhythm. If you DO change, change slowly by adding in some of the new food with the existing food over a few week period.

Bear in mind also that some of the really high end, good quality dry foods are very stout in terms of protein and will require that the kitties drink more water to reduce the strain on their bellies. For example: Orijen, EVO, Wellness Core. They're great products but cats who are used to shitty meow mix will need time to adjust.

I went ahead and got them the wellness food. Just opening the bag i could tell it was better stuff. It actually smelled like food. I gave them both small amounts and they were all over it. Also got a single canned food. We'll see if they eat that. Cats are gonna end up eating better than i am.

My beloved Mr. Peaches hates wet food. All kinds. The best he does with it is just lick the juices off.

On the water issue, consider getting a waterbowl that cycles the water like a fountain or waterfall. I found my cats drank a lot more water and stayed hydrated when it was moving because it doesn't become stale as fast. I use to use one of those self filling bowls with the gravity tank on it and my asshole cat would make a huge mess rocking it back and forth trying to get fresh water.

I can't get on board with the single food idea. I believe in variety. Suppose you ate nothing but mac and cheese for six months then one day had hot dogs and beans. Your digestive system would completely flip out! The answer is not to introduce new food slowly, but to avoid eating the same thing for extended periods.

For bag food I always have two kinds. When one of them runs out I get a bag of something different. I'm talking about high quality food from the pet store. There are only four or so brands with a few different varieties in each brand. I rotate.

They get no canned food ever but I do share some of my dinner with them. They don't always eat it but often they pig out. The only time they puke is when they eat a mouse, and not always then. I've been feeding my cats like this for decades and they've all been healthy and happy.

Yeah, i already had it set in my mind that i would change up the variety of food i get.
Not only just to switch up the flavor & meat, but to get the different benefits from each. Obviously i'm just going to have to trial and error what they like.

My cats eat one single brand of canned food. Neither will touch the other's flavor. I get one bag of name brand dry, and they get as much of that as they want.

No puking unless they eat something outside, usually chipmunks or moles.

My cat eats too fast and pukes up her food every fucking day. Always on the damn carpet too.

I have a feeling that she used to have to fight for food with her previous owner (who was crazy and 3 other cats).

Anybody deal with this? Suggestions?

Im thinking of getting a big ass dog bowl for her food so that its spread out on the bottom and she wont be able to inhale it like such a little fat fuck.

Little by little food. Give her a spoon. Wait half an hr, give her another spoon, hopefully after a week she'll learn

For the love of god, have all cats become complete wusses?

I used to always feed my cats dry food (science diet) for life and they never puked that I could tell. It wasn't until I got a feral rescue specimen that I learned to appreciate this disgusting vomiting 'feature' of modern cat ownership.:sad2: Of course that was the same point at which my cats quit being indoor/outdoor cats and became exclusively the indoor variety. If I had my druthers, I'd definitely stick with the in/out variety. :dunno:

Ours do this too. You have to get the Pate type of wet food. Out cats breathe the stuff in.
