Haha.
To be honest, the original Engineer's Guie to Cats was the stylistic inspiration for the thermostat vieo.
I wish I coul has kitty, but I has an allergy.
Siebar: Fuuuuuuuuuck! The key on my keyboar has just stoppe working! ammit, I can't even type the letter of the key that oesn't work. It's the one between S an F, which in a FPS game you' use to move right.
New keyboar has alreay been orere on Ebay. $21 shippe. Took the opportunity to upgrae to the backlit version. To be fair, this is really the first thing that's gone wrong with my refurbe ell E4200, an I o abuse the heck out of the keyboar, an I typically have to replace keyboars pretty frequently on my laptops. Normally it's the left-sie moifier keys (ctrl an alt) that go first, though. (An now that I think about it, the keyboar on my Sony Vaio, which felt really flimsy when I first bought it, laste like a champ an never gave me a single problem, espite the fact that by the time I was finishe with it, the paint was completely worn away from several of the keys. Guess I got spoile an forgot just how ba most other laptop keyboars were by comparison.
(Asie from eciing to first abanon "real" processors in favor of Atoms, an then abaonon the ultraportable market (which they practically invente in the first place) completely, thereby totally annihilating their reputation in my eyes, Sony oes make one hell of a goo laptop.)

I go through any other keyboard constantly, the Model M's though...Nothing bothers them. Nothing. At least the original ones, and not the crappy Unisys copies.

This is a laptop.
(I think I mentione that about a half a ozen times in the last post.)
If this were my esktop machine, then I' just grab another of the half-oezen keyboars I have sitting in a box in the closet and plug it in.
Unless IBM was making rop-in replacement keboars for the ell E4200 laptop 20 years before it was esigne, I on't think an M-series keyboar is going to help much.
But thanks for playing.

Wait, does that mean you've been TF2'ing on a laptop?

That woul efeat the purpose of having an ultraportable laptop that I can rest on one leg while I'm sitting on the couch in the living room watching TV an sipping rum & coke. If I ha a cat, the cat woul be sitting on my other knee while I was typing this, but as I on't have one, well, this is sort of a thre rift. So here:
No, I have several PCs, one of which is an i5 with a 28" isplay and all the trimmings. That's the Portal / TF2 machine. But it's in another room and I on't feel like staning up an walking over there right now.
(I think I'm just going to start using the symbol # to represent the letter that I can't type right now. It might make me look slightly less retar#e#. No, that #oesn't work. It's highly non-intuitive, and quite bur#ensome to actually #o. Frak.)

It's not the fur that's the problem, it's the protein Fel-D-1, which is present in the saliva and transferred to the skin and coat during grooming. I'd need to find a cat with no tongue, not one with no hair.
Sphynx cats are actually pretty average in terms of Fel-D-1 production, whereas some of the least offensive breeds, oddly enough, have extremely long and dense coats, such as the Siberian. Sadly, even these are not sufficiently mild for my schizophrenic immune system. (Which is ironic, given that my sister has virtually no immune system at all. We've joked about how inequitably that particular genetic trait was distributed between us, and I have gladly offered to share part of mine if she can figure out how to extract it.)
We're talking about an actual "you are going to die if you do not receive immediate medical attention" allergy here.
A couple of years ago, I happened upon a story about a company called Allerca, which claimed to have produced, through selective breeding, a domestic shorthair that was free of the offending protein. This really got my hopes up, and I began researching them quite extensively. Unfortunately, that which seems too good to be true often is, and the vast majority of what I found on them pointed to fraud, fraud, and more fraud (both corporate and on the part of the owner personally.)
They still have a website (which hasn't changed much since I first looked at it in 2007 or so), although the owner has been in and out of jail a couple of times. Who knows- maybe they have actually made a couple of deliveries, but for every positive testimonial I see in their own marketing literature, there seem to be at least 2^5 horror stories.
I can actually tolerate cats, as well as certain dog breeds, with the use of Claritin-D (the big-boy version with pseudoephedrine) at double the recommended dosage, however it's not a good long-term solution. Prolonged use messes me up. The commercials are true insofar as that it doesn't make you drowsy, but it does kind of screw with your head if you take it for several days in a row. I can't really describe it- kind of like being mildly detached from reality. Actually, the one TV ad where they peel back the hazy film from over the lady's perception of her surroundings is a perfect analogy, except in reverse. If I'd have experimented with more drugs in college then I'd probably have a more accurate basis for comparison, but I was a relatively good boy.
Try keying in alt codes on a laptop with no numeric keypad in the dark. I can crank out ° symbols all day long on my desktop machine (alt-0176) but it's not practical on the laptop.
(Incidentally, I'm typing this on the desktop machine. See? D. D! Dddddddddddddddddddddd!!!! Hooray.)
Hahaha. I finally figured out that if I really slam the key down hard enough that I feel like I'm going to break it in half I can get a d out of it, but this is now the third piece of technology that has decided to seriously fuсk with me this week, and it's the first one that I am completely empowered to quickly and easily do something about, so I'll not have it. That keyboard is going in the trash, and a brand new backlit keyboard (the only option my machine didn't come with when I bought it) is going in its place.
