ITT: You educate me on beds, the ones you sleep on
#23
We got a Tempupedic a couple years ago. Picked it up for 40% off or something close to that. I have some back issues and it helps with that. If the bed is cold it does get a bit stiff. Like less than 68deg is isn't as soft until you lay in it. It doesn't move when you other gets up. Bed barely moves when my 60lb dog jumps around. We like it if it's in your price range

We have a Haverty's memory foam mattress and have had it for a number of years. Maybe 5 - 7? It does feel like it's finally starting to "soften" a bit more in the area I lay in - like I sink in to it more than I used to.
That said, we never had issues with it feeling hot. It's awesome for a couple if one moves around a lot or if one person gets up first or goes to sleep later than the other as there is virtually no movement to disturb the other person.
I have two bulging discs that press on a nerve cluster in my lower back and a memory foam mattress is about the only kind that does not increase the pain when I wake up in the morning. I've slept on a number of beds, including some nice ones at various hotels and resorts, and I would buy a Tempur-Pedic or something comparable if shopping for a replacement.
That said, I am not familiar with the natural latex linked to above.

I spend a third of my life in my bed, therefore i was willing to spend good money to have a great bed. What I have is a "tempurpedic knockoff", but it's one hell of a quality knockoff. Picked it up from a company called "bergad isoform", their manufacturing facility is near Pittsburgh, and unfortunately they do exclusively internet/phone sales, so you can't lay on it before you buy it. They do have a 90 night trial period though, and free shipping and "install" . I picked up the top of the line king mattress from them for 1600. When I called them to find out more and told them I needed a week to make a purchasing decision, they said that they could offer me the top of the line bed at the next lower quality bed price. That was awesome. It's either a 20 or 25 year warranty on the bed also. The bergad beds are often rated higher than the tempurpedic equivalents, and they can price then much lower because they do no advertising. Most of their sales are word-of-mouth. About once a month my girl will wake up and ask me " why is your bed so comfortable?" And I usually answer "because you got the dick last night"
I bought my bed from Healthy Foundations I did alot of research on beds and came upon this company and they had a 99% satisfaction rating. So I bit the bullet. I have never not once regretted this purchase! Best thing I have ever paid for!

We bought a 12" queen costco memory foam mattress. it was far and away the best price we could find anywhere for this brand (sleep innovations Novaform)--$500. Plus they have a fine return policy: you don't have to get it back in the box, just in a gigantic plastic bag. No big deal.
My wife loved it, but it was too soft for me. We returned it.
That being said, we had an 8" no name memory foam mattress that we loved (were borrowing it, so only had it for a few months, but it was great during that time).
Ramble ramble.

So we went to the local mattress retailer in our podunk little town on Sunday. We laid in some beds and in general, everything is nicer than what we currently have, but there wasn't anything we really fell in love with either.
We're doing some more research now (thanks for all the links) and it's pretty overwhelming. Too much ch*t to choose from.
Oh well, wish us luck. The link that atli posted sounds pretty good, anyone heard anythign else about Healthy Foundations Mem. foam? My wife actually found that website/retailer doing her own research...
THanks again

This is what we did. We use a latex mattress, with a 3" pad on top. Your preferences may vary. We sleep good.
One thing though, the latex mattresses will absorb body heat and heat up through the night. So if you go to bed cold, with a ton of covers, at 3am you have heated things up and you wake up sweating. Just something to be aware of. Using a hot water bottle (Victorian technology) to pre-heat the bed is the win.
