If you can, get someone with skilz to ride with you. This would be the best possible thing to do. Ask the organizers if they have any volunteer instructors that could ride along. You'll learn a bunch. Track is a whole different enchilada than road.
Don't be afraid to pit before your session is over if the brakes or tires get too hot and squirrelly.
Remember smooth is fast, do all your braking in a straight line, no abrupt changes.

I would not hesitate man. Just do the regular maintenance prior like bleeding your brakes and clutch, changing your oil, checking your timing (id go with 10* and not higher personally), and just generally making sure everything is buttoned down. If you have a heater still, turn it on if you start overheating. I cant see any reason why the motor would be a problem other than having slightly less power than a newer one.
