Yeah, that was a tough call by the UCI. It really looked more like a balance type of thing that caused Sagan to stick his elbow out like he did. I was somewhat surprised that Cav kept such a cool head at the end of the stage despite what had happened.
Today's stage should be good... A relatively short stage with a 6km climb at the end, with an opening grade of 8% and a section of 20% at the finish line.

Side note EDIT, I recently discovered liquid nutrition. Specifically, 1/4 cup Malto from my homebrew shop mixed with 24oz EASY ADE (orange gatoraid clone) from my local watch-them-fill-the-cartons dairy. Placebo? I feel awesome, compared to the gels/chews/wafers & water I've used since my 20s, which I've struggled to eat quickly on the bicycle.

I just had my 9 week appointment from the back surgery. I'm cleared to get back on the bike (both road and mtb) although I have to keep it to fire roads. No "sending it". Stoked to say the least. I'm going to start riding the local fire roads on my 650+ setup this week. woohooo!

I swapped the lightness parts from my Rivet to my Tarmac this past weekend. I was surprised to see it lost 2.0lbs, since my spreadsheet of individual component weights said it should have been closer to 1.6. She now weighs 15.32 lbs with powertap hub, pedals & garmin mount, not bad for a 56cm fact9 (lowest level carbon) SL4 tarmac I think. To drop more I would have to go to tubeless and ditch the powermeter. Maybe in a few years when my current batch of tires are worn. The Rivet with the same components was 15.4lbs.
I'm contemplating what to do with the Rivet frameset. If I sell it I think i should be able to get ~$550 for it, but then again I could build it up with my tarmac takeoffs and have a very nice crit frame assuming I ever want to get into crit racing. I'd like an Allez sprint frame but those are a lot more than what I'd get for this rivet.
New cross bike. 100% OEM as shown. Decided to leave my current Van Dessel in 2x11, 40c gravel bike config. Been racing the last few years with a MTB as my "B" bike. In cross, you are allowed to switch bikes if you have a flat or mechanical. Courses are designed to pass by pits twice per lap. Races are short so having a spare bike can be critical. I plan to go to cross nationals in Reno this year where MTB's are not allowed.
2018 Giant TCX Advanced 2. Rival 1 group. 19.4's w/o pedals or tubes. Frame is freaky light. Bars, seat, wheels (2050g) and cranks (799g) are all anchors. Should be close to 17lbs with those bits replaced. Forgive the funky seat and bar angle. First ride around the lot last night..
Rival 1x shifts nice. Was going to swap for Shimano but I think this group is better for cross. Very positive shifting over bumpy ground.
Market for cross bikes has changed. For one, gravel racing happened. Gotta have cages for that. Also, UCI began allowing feeds during hot cx races for pros.
What's just starting to happen is the major manufacturers doing gravel specific frame and specs. The new Specialized Diverge is a case in point. Smaller companies have been doing it for a few years but the gravel specific bike from the ground up is something new for the majors.
Looking at the pics of the riders in that enduro, lots of baggy jerseys. Dave wearing what looks like a cotton t shirt. I'm guessing the average speeds are well above 15mph. That would mean aero drag would be greater than rolling drag on the pedaling sections. As an avowed aero geek, I wince at the loss of those watts.
The Minion SS was not by choice- I cut my good front tire in friday practice. made a tough decision to run a new (no holes in it) semi-slick rear tire in the front. It was not optimal.
I'm wearing a real jersey- size medium to make it less baggy... Yeah aero would be fast, but looks real stupid when stretched over pads/tools/stuff. I carry food and tools in my shorts pockets and wear this back protector/pocket vest thingy with a jacket stuffed in the back pouch over the back protection:
