Took a last minute trip to Red Rock Canyon just outside Las Vegas over the weekend. Wife was on a business trip, so I took off for a couple days to see friends and ride new trails. I dragged Sonny with me as well.
It was amazing. Cool scenery, very different than SoCal, much more "flowy" trail style, different dirt, more rock.
Dan, what did you ride? Looks like blue diamond. 3 Mile Smile, badger pass? Not far from there are the cowboy trails. There's some good gnarly stuff in there.

Blue Diamond.
Pretty mellow over all. No shuttle stuff, all XC type trails.
29.3mph on dirt is crazy, but the descending trails in the southern part of that park were so smooth, with berms and occasional rock gardens and <1' drops that you could just fly down. Very confidence-inspiring.
Viagra DH and Cactus Slalom were lifelong highlights.
After watching enough cool videos of Emilio leading climbs, I decided to invest in some used/refurb first gen Virbs for my birthday. I brought my bike to work yesterday and printed some mounts, and stopped by McMaster on my ride home for some 304ss hardware (I  willcall). I think they came out pretty nice. Now I have to figure out the software side and link them to my 520.
Sons, the biggest crit of the year for me is tonight and my goal is to ruin the race for as many people as possible. Best case scenario, I launch one of two teammates at the end or throw a few haymakers at the end. I also will use my signature move, attack the lap after a prim.
I remember when I weighed 142 in season and thought I was going to be a climber my first year racing. I got a power meter as a gift (hurrah college alumni!) and realized I could sprint. That was weird. I think my best 5 sec power was 1430W (wired SRM).
Watching the climbing video made me cringe. My teammates used to guilt me into doing hilly road races and it was the worst thing ever. I think I finished an hour offthebackisthan in a 60 mile race once. I remember asking a marshall how far up the leaders were and he just started cracking up. Lulz.
Hustler, did you launch your leadout after the race was over
So I'm doing this next Saturday Dirty Kanza - World's Premier Gravel Grinder
200 mile gravel grinder in Lenexa, KS. It is the granddaddy or if you will, Mother of all gravel grinders.

Please win. That race is huge for people around here.
Had back surgery... It was a huge success but it's going to mean many months off of bikes. I just got cleared for PT and to do some easy trainer rides on an "Upright Bike". I used the requirement for an "Upright Bike" from the doctor as a reason to add to the stable. I scooped a 2013 Kona Dew DL, stripped it down and built it back up with some off the shelf parts, XT Shifters, Deore Cranks and an SLX derailleur, hydro brakes blah blah blah. Turns out, this thing actually has decent touring and gravel grinding geo. That being the case, I threw a 3x10 on it and I'll keep some dirt drops around. For the rest of it's life it'll do commuting and random runs to and up a local fire road called blackstar (with some 40c tires on it).
When I got it.
A few parts changed around
In other news, I'm selling my trance to make room in the stable for a dream bike once I fully recover from surgery. Some sort of plastic aggro 29r will find it's way into the stable. I've had some good times with this bike, hopefully it goes to a good home locally.
