i quit smoking

Good for you. It's not an easy ride. I was kind of lucky(?) in that I quit while I had an ***-kicking case of bronchitis(my doctor - "Still smoking? Good work. Now you'll have this an extra week or two."). I felt so crappy from being sick I didn't really miss smoking for the first couple weeks. But it was probably 2 years before I stopped having the occasional craving. I gave in once after almost 2 years and it felt pretty crappy, so I figured I was over it. Going to bars was the toughest, but now that you can't smoke in bars it might not be so bad.

At least I can still drive a Miata!
Urban, keep it up. I already had my son buy me a pack of Nicorette gum. I'll take out of the closet tonight. Had it hidden so I couldn't see it.
And Jay, fwiw I thank you for your encouragement

One thing that scares the hell out of me when it comes to quitting smoking is the fact that the time I quit for 6 months I gained 40 pounds (I went up to 220 and I'm at 190 now).
Jay, thanks for that link.
Urban, I wish I had the willpower to follow you right now.

******* right on man! Stay with it, you'll feel stronger after a week or two not smoking. But you cant cheat, that doesn't count.
My wrist doctor recommended I quit before he fused my wrist back together. He gave me wellbutrin and I haven't smoked in a little over 2 months now. I have been smoking .5 pack to 1.5 a day since I was 16. Now turning 24 next month....I felt it was time to grow up. I go throughout my day now and I don't even think about smoking. I can smell new smells, I don't smell, I can breather smoother, I'm pumped.
Pot on the other hand, that's a different story. I usually toke a couple times a week.

I quit about 3 years ago. Got scared straight. Had some kind of episode and figured cigs may be the cause. There is no magic potion for quitting. I had a good reason and that was enough to giterdone. I used the patch and it did help with the craving. When I got really antsy I took a toke to help me calm down. It is a ******* tough 8 weeks to get through, but it's only 8 weeks out of your life. After that it becomes a memory. I still think about cigs fondly from time to time, but it's no different than "craving" a steak or a burger now.
I had been trying to gain weight my whole life. I was 6'1 and 165 since highschool. After 30 years of smoking I gained 18lbs. in 2 months without changing my diet. Hang in there you CAN do it. They don't own you.

Don't use the gum, you are just substituting and it'll only give you the illusion that you are winning. The nicotine is still in your system and you're still feeding your addiction. Is a heroine junkie any less of one when they shoot instead of smoke it?
This is all a mental game, you just need to get in the right mind set for it and it'll work. The only thing you have to do is be committed to doing it. The physical addiction is merely the hook that keeps it going.
Seriously, throw away the gum or I assure you you'll be smoking in a couple of days.

Urban, if you keep it up for 1 week I'll follow you; how's that? I'm going to regret saying it.
