I'm a happy nerd tonight. Got my Nikon 50mm f/1.8D in the mail earlier, reman from Adorama for $99. According to reviews and user ratings, it is one of the sharpest lenses Nikon makes, and of course the f/1.8 allows for really nice low light shooting. The next step to the f/1.4 warrants another $200-$220, but is even better in low light. The depth of field is amazing on this lens, and bokeh is incredibly nice. It's a bit soft wide open at 1.8, but backed down to 2.8 it is much more crisp, with most of the low light qualities. Just shot this sitting here with only a dim overhead light, with 2 low wattage candelabra bulbs, ISO 200, f/1.8 at 1/5 second shutter, on a monopod for stability. Not bad performance at all! Surprised it wasn't blurred to shit at 1/5 though.
Attachment 192226 LOVE IT!!! I'll enjoy many hours of snapping with this lens. Best $100 I think I have ever spent. If it breaks, oh well. It's not a $1700 85mm f/1.4 :p Now to upgrade from the prehistoric D50 to a more modern and much better performing D90. That will be coming soon. D50 low light performance isn't the best, a little grainy even at ISO 200, unusable to me by 800, and surely not worth bothering with at 1600. Another plus to this lens is that with a reversing ring (mount the lens to the camera by the filter threads), this lens becomes an outstanding macro lens, able to fill the frame with very very tiny objects with extremely nice detail. |
I have so little brainpower left after finals that it took me about 5min to figure this out. I want to sleep all day. Between wrapping up semester projects and studying for finals it's been nearly 3 weeks since I've slept more than 4hrs in a single night. I have to find job today though. :hustler: |
Finally registered in a course I'm going to have interest in.
What course is it? Oh, only "Terrorism and Political Violence in Post-War Europe, 1945-2000" |
