Started with old microwave, continues with new one, so...

6 month old Square D HOM120DF Combination GFCI / Dual Function circuit breakers in kitchen. 2 installed.

1st breaker started tripping just as microwave would finish its cycle. Moved it to other circuit. Same thing. Replaced the Microwave with a new one from Panasonic.

Now. 1st breaker.... Trips about every other time MW is used. Again, right at the end of the cycle... when timer hits "0".

Does not trip on other breaker (tried 5 times).

Diagnostics on breaker is: Turn off, press TEST, Turn on. Depending on when breaker goes to trip position, the cause of the actual trip is either Short, Ground Fault, or Arc Fault. Took 2 seconds, indicating Arc Fault.

1) Likely a failing breaker
2) Likely truly a loose connection somewhere
3) Likely a Microwave that is incompatible with Arc Fault Detection.

I just found out that my girlfriends boss and wife want to take all their employees and their spouses to dinner next week. It's a small company, so like 12 employees? They also want to take everyone to a documentary about being Vegan after dinner, which are going to bail on since we have the 3 dogs to take care of.

I'm disappointed that the restaurant of choice is a fancy, hippy place here in OKC..........meaning I can't order a steak "rare" just for the fun of it.

Yes, I am that big of dickhead.

Other than heading back even further to the basics, i'm guessing your issue is #3.

I'm not sure about that fancy ass breaker.
Can you use microwave on a non GFCI weird breaker thing?

Do you happen to have one of ? If not, are you positive that you do not need one?

Maybe don't have an arc-fault interrupter servicing the kitchen?

I would pull the wall outlet and check to see if the connections are tight, just for kicks.

I gave the owner of the Modena 360 a ride in my car.
He jokingly asked (twice) if I would be interested in trading cars...

I politely declined.

On the other hand, even the idea of installing a 3.6 liter, 9k redline V8 with a couple turbos in the Miata is a pretty cool fantasy.

Cannot find GFCI - only breakers any longer. Code says Arc Fault for kitchen.

I do not. Will look into.

I do have an older GFCI only in my bathroom. I may switch that one in. I may put in a straight-up over -current only breaker after I check the connections.

DNMakinson 09-12-2019 07:38 PM

Sorry to post so many, but GFCI only are still available.

Would not want a slow Ferrari. I prefer a fast sleeper with cheap maintenance.

As are non-GFCI breakers as well.

I'd have accepted the trade, sold the Ferrari, and then used a small bit of the money to buy & build another Miata.

Hearing you say that makes me think (in terms of scale), of what it might have been like to hear Genghis Khan casually say "I think Mongolia should control more territory" circa 1203.

Bring some raw frozen offal, like beef lung or something. When queried, just tell them you have to leave directly to feed your dogs. Dogs and cats are carnivores. They don't hate pets do they???

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who believe that vegan diets are applicable to dogs and cats, and several commercial dog / cat food companies which cater to that belief. I assume that the sort of person who expects their employees to attend a screening of a documentary about being vegan after a company dinner would also strongly object to the suggestion that cats and dogs require meat as part of their diet.

I don't really believe in karma, but those people deserve the most violent of cat farts.

*Edit* but I did know a dog that was allergic to meat. Got all bright pink and itchy. So I'm glad they make it. But seriously. Don't be that person.

I'm supposed to be cleaning my wheels this weekend.
