Sorry, wasn't being sarcastic although in retrospect it came out that way. If it were me, I'd return it. I mean you aren't happy with it right? You paid for something and that something didn't meet your expectation. PayPal gave you your money back. Don't you think the seller should get his item back?

The way I see it, if the seller contacts you for alternate payment or returning the item, you have four choices:
1) send him some payment (presumably not full payment, since it's broken but perhaps you still want it for parts or something) 2) ship the item back at your expense 3) ship the item back at his expense 4) ignore him and keep the broken item IMHO, having a conscience should block out #4 (screwing him back may feel like justice, but it's really not), #3 is fully reasonable assuming you feel it's entirely his fault for misrepresenting it, #2 is reasonable if you feel like it's partly your fault, and #1 is only reasonable if you want to keep it anyway. --Ian At this point, if he asked for any kind of payment, he can pound sand and send me a return label. It could potentially cost me what I paid for it to get it running correctly. |

There is an associated app, but this IS a hardware solution. |
I've looked at the Live scribe. Even used one that a co-worker worker owned several years ago. I remember it very clearly, sitting in the big conference room at CBS radio, about six months before their move to Hudson Street.
You have to buy (or print and bind) special paper. You have to use a pen (which cannot be erased.) The version that works natively with Windows requires a USB plugin for downloading. I want something that looks like a Kindle, has a stylus that feels like a good quality mechanical pencil with a virtual eraser on the end, and just... works. In unrelated news... I got a call about two weeks ago from an old colleague of mine, who was apparently retained as a headhunter to make a scouting call to see if I'd be interested in leaving WGN to take an as-yet-unnamed high level position with an audio console manufacturer which, ironically, was my #1 competitor back when I worked for Harris, prior to the dissolution of the PR&E group. I had a brief conversation today with their VP of operations, the meat of which was to find out when the earliest I'd be available to fly out to North Carolina (on their dime) was. I asked if they'd prefer to do a Skype / phone interview first, to which he replied "No, we know you by reputation. That won't be necessary." Wanna talk about an ego boost? That's it. Coda: Ironically, the guy who I may be replacing was the same one whose pen I borrowed five years ago. Assistant his wife left him, he spiraled into alcoholism, and has basically flushed his life down the toilet. Which i still find hard to accept, as Joe (yes, he's also named Joe) always seemed like the perfect guy, with the perfect wife, the perfect kids, the perfect house, the perfect life, etc. Meanwhile. I'm lying on by back on a heating pad, watching old James Bond movies, and thinking "Am I really an adult?" |

Same here. 18%VAT inclusive of advertised product.
I'm not sure what I was thinking when I posted that... So I revise my question: What the fuck is with price-listing in North America? |

Now that I think about it, this was also the case in Germany. All products on the shelf listed the price after tax.

That being said, I love this state. |

Where in NC are they located? If you are used to living in a large city, and the amenities that go with it, most of the industrial areas are going to be terrible. I had a few job offers in areas outside the RTP, and I could not bring myself to move my family to meth-land to advance my career.

Ouch! I was stationed in Goldsboro and only visited New Bern once. It was laterally equivalent at best.
That said, I've come to learn over the years that no place (other than Manhattan) is perfect. And where I'm at right now isn't exactly downtown (eg: you need a car for pretty much everything.) If the job turns out to be what I think it is, then I'd be traveling quite a lot, and that appeals to me greatly. Quite frankly, waking up in the same bed every day, driving to the same workplace every day, and seeing the same people every day bores me to death. From the period of 1999 - 2013, I was on an airplane about once every other week on average, spent around 50% of my time "at home," and that lifestyle really worked rather well for me. And now, a copletely random observation: it occurs to me that I haven't visited a single ATM in the six months I've lived in Chicago. It's not as though I don't use cash. I pay for my haircuts with it, I spend it at small, locally-owned restaurants, and just yesterday I lost a $1 bet with it. I seriously have no idea why I haven't run out of small bills... It's like they keep magically re-generating in the kitchen drawer where I keep the petty cash next to the box of cigars. |
Yeah, New Bern kinda sucks. Most of the town is old and disheveled.
There are 2 good things about it. 1) It is less than an hour from the beach. 2) Autocross at Cherry Point (Marine Base) is one of the best sites in the state. |

Would you actually need to move there? Serious question. Could it be the place you fly to and stay in a hotel? Could you be once again fully nomadic? Or maintain a residence in a town you are likely to need to visit often for work anyway?
|
I don't know if the whole town qualifies as a shithole. I am familiar with the downtown area, which is very old and floods fairly often.
I would not personally move to New Bern. However, depending on the commute you are OK with, there are lots of options in the area. Especially if you want to get into fishing or farming. :bigtu: |
Good questions for your next interview:
"Is your town unambiguously a shithole? Are you going to make me live here?" |

New Bern is a lot like New Coke.
